Warning! Spoilers for “When Calls the Heart” season 13, episode 9, ahead.
With Lucas and Edie’s romance on the rocks after Edie skipped town, it’s now up to Lucas to decide on how to get his lady back! Elizabeth and Nathan’s romance is also in the limelight, with things looking more serious as time continues. With LJ’s grandmother, Charlotte Thornton, now making her return to Hope Valley, it’ll be up to Elizabeth to help LJ reassociate with family from his dad’s side. HallmarkElizabeth tells her class that her students from Benson Hills will finally be able to go back home and attend school there in no time at all.
Leland tells Lucas that he is scheduled to break ground on his construction project but won’t be able to without the right funding. Lucas tells him that Hope Valley’s fund is for disaster relief, reassuring him that he will make the calls to ensure he gets the money to pay his workers.
LJ tells Nathan that he thinks he lost his dad’s medal, leading Nathan to promise him that he will help retrace his steps to find it.
Lucas tracks down Edie in Union City over the phone, telling her she didn’t give him a chance to say goodbye. She tells him she is grateful that he pushed her away so she could embark on a new job opportunity. He asks Edie if she can help him establish the proper funding for Leland, and Edie agrees.
LJ tells Elizabeth that he lost his dad’s medal while walking a trail with Nathan. LJ tearfully runs to his room after he broke the news to his mom.
Nathan, Bill and Oliver do their best to search for LJ’s dad’s medal. Nathan tells Bill he wishes there is more he can do to help LJ.
Leland shows Elizabeth the blueprint of her classroom, made in 1910 by her late husband, Jack Thornton, who died in season 5. Finally, LJ’s spirits are lifted by a memory of his dad.
LJ Goes on ‘Memory Hunt’ to Learn About His Dad
HallmarkElizabeth tells Nathan she thinks she hasn’t done enough to keep the memory of LJ’s dad alive. Allie chimes in, sparking an idea in Elizabeth to help LJ feel closer to him.
Elizabeth takes LJ on a “memory hunt” to teach him about his dad. Elizabeth shows him where she and Jack fell in love; Nathan and Bill tell him stories about how his dad heroically put people in jail; Dr. Faith tells LJ that his dad inspired her to become a doctor; Henry Hughes tells LJ that his dad helped him become a better man by befriending him when he had nobody to lean on.
Nathan tells LJ that he will always be there for him before giving him his last scavenger hunt clue that leads to his grandma Charlotte, who reads him a letter that his dad wrote about him before he was even born.
Allie asks Oliver if she can read one of Jack’s cases from when he was a Mountie and turn it into a story for LJ.
Rosemary tells Elizabeth she thinks she healed Jack’s heart when they fell in love, leading Elizabeth to say that he healed her heart in return. Rosemary expresses thanks for Jack having introduced her to Elizabeth, her best friend.
Lucas and Edie stay on the phone for hours on end to talk business. Before they hang up, Lucas asks her if it’s too late to mend their romantic relationship. She tells him he shouldn’t think too much about the past before abruptly hanging up the phone.
Charlotte Thornton Thrilled to be Back With Family
HallmarkAllie reads her heroic story about Jack to Elizabeth and Charlotte before reading it to LJ. Charlotte is elated to hear such good memories about her son, hugging Allie to thank her for keeping his memory alive.
Leland thanks Lucas for getting the funding to source his construction project and pay his workers. Lucas tells him it was all due to Edie, leading Leland to question him if he’s going to get his lady back.
Elizabeth, Nathan, LJ, Allie and Charlotte join together for dinner, where Charlotte shows Allie illustrations she drew for her story about Jack. Allie presents LJ with her story about his dad, leaving him in awe as he giddily reads it out loud in front of his family.
