Thousands of fans who gathered to see Sabrina Carpenter’s second Coachella concert in a week got an extra special surprise on April 17, 2026.
Carpenter stunned the crowd by introducing music icon Madonna to the stage, and the two had a blast performing some of Madonna’s biggest hits, “Like a Prayer” and “Vogue,” as well as their surprise new song together.
Madonna Wore One of the Same Outfits She Performed in at Coachella 2 Decades Earlier
As soon as Madonna took the stage with Carpenter, social media exploded with videos of and reactions to the music megastar’s return, 20 years after her Coachella debut. She’d been back only once, in 2015, to perform alongside Drake, according to Variety.
While Carpenter was singing her song “Juno,” Madonna was slowly raised up to the stage, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which said the music shifted right when Carpenter sang her lyric, “Have you ever tried this one?” Immediately, the music switched to Madonna’s legendary “Vogue” medley, the crowd went insane, and both stars sang the classic together.
Carpenter and Madonna then sang a new tune called “Bring Your Love,” per Extra, that’s expected to appear on the Queen of Pop’s new album, “Confessions II,” due for release on July 3. It will be her first full-length album in seven years, per Variety.
The duo then sang one more of Madonna’s smash hits, “Like A Prayer,” and even Madonna seemed blown away by the full-circle moment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Madonna told the screaming crowd, “I have a few things I wanna get off my chest. 20 years ago today, I performed at Coachella. I was in the dance tent, and it was the first time I performed ‘Confessions on the Dance Floor’ Part One in America.”
“And that was such a thrill for me,” the queen of pop continued. “So you can imagine what a thrill it is for me to be back 20 years later in the same boots, the same corset, the jacket I had on earlier, the same Gucci jacket. So, it’s like a full circle moment, very meaningful for me.”
Sabrina Carpenter Has Paid Homage to Madonna Before
Carpenter has been vocal about her love of Madonna, even wearing the pop queen’s 1991 Oscars dress to the 2024 VMAs. Fun fact: before Carpenter wore the iconic white dress, designer Bob Mackie let Fran Drescher wear it during a 1994 episode of “The Nanny,” per W Magazine.
In 2025, Carpenter posed for the cover of Vogue looking again just like the Material Girl, who has graced the magazine’s cover many times. Madonna apparently loved Carpenter’s throwback impression of her, according to Billboard, commenting on Vogue’s Instagram post of the cover, “Is this a Valentine’s present to me?”
The photo was taken by longtime Madonna collaborator Steven Meisel, per Billboard, and featured Carpenter wearing an “ice-blue satin cone bra corset mini dress” by Dolce & Gabbana.
