Ken Lowe, co-founder of HGTV, has listed his fully renovated oceanfront estate in Sea Island, Georgia, for $42 million, offering a look at a project years in the making.
Lowe and his wife, Julia Lowe, purchased the property for $9.1 million in 2017. While the home was originally considered move-in ready, the couple told The Wall Street Journal that small updates quickly turned into a full-scale renovation. The transformation took four years to complete and resulted in a custom-built estate known as Lowe Tide.
HGTV Co-Founder’s Estate Features High-End Design
The 11,000-square-foot home was rebuilt with a focus on craftsmanship and premium materials. According to the listing on Realor.com, the estate is “a once-in-a-generation opportunity to own one of the most extraordinary oceanfront estates on Sea Island.”
“Lowe Tide is a masterwork of global artisanship, architectural pedigree, and bespoke execution,” the listing states. “Custom-built in 2021, the home reflects a deeply personal vision realized with uncompromising attention to quality, craftsmanship, and enduring design.”
The home features hand-carved moldings, statement lighting, custom hardware, and high-end finishes like Italian marble and parquet floors. Julia led much of the design, bringing in European touches inspired by her time living in Paris, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The Home Includes Unique Features and Spaces
The estate offers four bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms, along with several distinctive features. One standout addition is a chocolate-making room, reflecting Julia’s background as a chocolatier and pastry chef.
The home features two kitchens, each with its own purpose. The main kitchen includes a La Cornue range, while a separate chef’s kitchen is set up for entertaining. The listing notes it includes “walk-in refrigeration, dedicated prep areas, and an adjacent chef’s office.”
A concealed interactive screen allows guests to communicate with the chef, adding a modern element to the entertaining experience.
HGTV Legacy Reflected in Custom Layout
The layout includes multiple entertaining areas designed for both formal and casual use. Spaces range from a Parisian-inspired dining room to a library and bar suited for smaller gatherings.
The primary suite spans a large portion of the upper level, featuring a bedroom, dual offices, two bathrooms, and a private sitting area. One office reflects French neoclassical design, complete with ornate detailing and bold colors.
The suite also includes a three-story closet, which Julia described as her own “private Bergdorf Goodman.”
Ken Lowe’s Sea Island Property Includes Outdoor Amenities
The outdoor areas were designed to match the scale and detail of the interior. The grounds feature gardens, fountains, and a pool area described in the listing as offering a “resort-like sense of privacy and serenity.”
The pool includes a covered loggia with retractable screens and heated flooring, allowing for year-round use. A rooftop terrace provides panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Lowe and Julia said they decided to sell after a shift in their lifestyle.
Originally intended as a retirement home, the property no longer fits their plans as they now spend more time traveling between Paris, London, and New York.
If the home reaches its asking price, it would set a new record for residential real estate on Sea Island.
