After months of living out of a suitcase with her husband, Devon Mendenhall, and their three kids in tow, “American Idol” season 24 winner Hannah Harper was thrilled to get back home after the Los Angeles finale and a whirlwind media tour in New York City.
On May 16, 2026, the 26-year-old country singer posted a video from her cozy and beautifully decorated home in Willow Springs, Missouri — a town in the Ozark Mountains that inspired the original song Harper sang during the “American Idol” finale on May 11, called “Married Into This Town.”
“After living out of a hotel for the last 2 months, home has never felt sweeter,” she wrote in the caption of her video. “I also decided to repaint every single room in the house the week before we left for LA 😂 so honestly… I’d kinda forgotten what the place even looked like.”
Hannah Harper’s Home is Full of Thrifted Finds
Viewers were introduced to Harper when her “American Idol” audition aired in January, featuring a peek inside her living room, where her family gathered to sing as they had for years, performing as a family bluegrass band when Harper was growing up.
Harper was back in that space in her May 16 video, writing in her caption that she had “never been more thankful to be home with my people.” She started her video standing in front of a rustic wood table where she said she conducted her first Zoom audition for the show.
Then, Harper adorably moved a few steps into her living room area while kicking toy cars and action figures strewn about the floor. She pointed out the brown leather sectional couch where she wrote “String Cheese,” the emotional song about motherhood she auditioned with, which quickly went viral.
Harper then took a few steps again to reach her bedroom, noting that it had been two months since she’d slept in her bed, with its black wrought iron frame and picture window behind it. She then hopped over to her walk-in closet, joking that she forgot what clothes she owned.
In her video’s caption, the singer wrote, “I could turn this home tour into an entire series just talking about all the thrift finds throughout the house 😂 The majority of our furniture and decor is either secondhand or homemade, and those are the pieces I love the most 🤍”
Hannah Harper Says She Loves ‘Sentimental’ Items in Her Home
DisneyBefore she made it on “American Idol,” Harper was a stay-at-home mom to her three boys — Jentry, Cyrus, and Asa — and was homeschooling Jentry, her oldest, who turned seven in April. Throughout the great room, large framed photos of her family hang on the walls.
As she showed off her kitchen, featuring a large island with white cabinetry and dark counters, she told fans, “Over here is the kitchen that I haven’t cooked in in like six months — not because I’ve been on ‘Idol,’ but because my husband has been Mr. Mom. He’s amazing. So I haven’t had to cook anything!”
As her husband walked past in the background, Harper joked, “And if you cook one bad meal like you don’t know how to cook anymore, all of a sudden it’s not your job anymore! Highly recommend it!”
Harper also showed fans her kids’ rooms, including two-year-old Asa’s nursery and another room with a bunk bed for Jentry and Cyrus.
“My house is full of very sentimental things,” she shared, pointing out her childhood dollhouse now used as a toy shelf and bunk bed quilts made by her grandma. “If you haven’t realized, I’m a very sentimental person. But once I’m here, I don’t want to leave.”
Fans Loved Hannah Harper’s Home Tour, But She Won’t Be There For Long
Fans swooned over Harper’s home tour in the comment section, including “Married At First Sight” alum Jamie Otis Hehner, who wrote, “Beautiful home filled with so much love … and talent 😜❤️”
Another wrote, “Girl, you’ll be living in a mansion in Nashville soon! Congratulations and your home is lovely. The next Dolly – that’s you!”
“Your home looks lived in and I need to remind myself as a momma to not bust my behind to clean it everyday,” someone else commented. “Thank you for being real 😂❤️”
Although Harper loves her sweet home, she also knows her life is changing after winning “American Idol,” and that she’ll need to be on the road sharing her music. During a post-finale interview on the show’s podcast, she told host Danielle Fishel that she’s eager to teach her kids “there’s more to life than your zip code.”
“We live in a rural area where people genuinely don’t leave their entire life,” she continued, “and so I just want them to see the world and know all the opportunities.”
