Jelly Roll’s Health Consultant Reveals Singer Feared for His Life

The whole world has seen Jelly Roll transform in front of their eyes as the singer has lost more than 200 pounds and continues to lose more.

But the first-ever artist-in-residence on “American Idol” didn’t do it alone.

His personal health consultant, Gary Brecka, is speaking out about Jelly’s journey to health, which he says started in a very dark place.

Brecka sat in on the latest episode of the podcast “Bussin’ With the Boys,” hosted by Will Compton and Taylor Lewan.

The world-renowned human biologist and longevity expert founded “The Ultimate Human” to use his expertise in analyzing blood and gene markers to help people live longer and better lives.

Brecka says Jelly Roll reached out to him with a DM asking simply, “Do you work with fat people?”

Jelly Roll Lived In Fear of Dying in His Sleep

Gary Brecka says at his highest weight, Jelly Roll would wake up each morning just thankful he was still alive.

“Every morning that he would wake up, he said as soon as he would wake up, he would thank God that he didn’t die that night,” Brecka told Compton and Lewan, “because he felt like he was gonna die every night he went to sleep.”

In fact, Brecka says Jelly was heartbreakingly transparent with him, admitting, “I have to sleep on my side and wedge myself in with pillows, because if I roll on my back at night, I’ll suffocate. I’ll vomit. I never turn the radio down in the car, because when I pull up to a spotlight, I can hear myself wheezing. So I’ll just turn the radio off to bury the sound of my own breath wheezing.”

Jelly Roll Showed Unwavering Determination to Get Better

Gary Brecka analyzed Jelly Roll’s bloodwork and genes and unveiled a plan to the “Hard Fought Hallelujah” singer to transform his life in ten weeks.

“To his credit, he did exactly everything I said to a ‘T’ for that first ten weeks. He started cold plunging, we made him get in 10,000 steps a day, he set a goal for himself to run a 5K… but when we started with him, it was actually very sad because I could see this guy’s heart. He’s a good human, but he could barely fit in this private airplane seat. And he started talking to us, describing what it was like to go through a day in the life of just being him and his weight.”

“He’s one of the most grateful, humble human beings I’ve ever met,” Brecka revealed.

Jelly Roll was also one of the most committed.

Brecka says Jelly told him, “‘I’m ready to commit to changing this, because God’s given me this opportunity to have my music serve the world. And I feel like I’m gonna die.’ He is one of the most genuine human beings, and to see that transition right there is just amazing, man.”

Jelly Roll has lost 200 pounds so far and says he wants to lose at least 100 more. And Gary Brecka says that hard work will pay off in years. “That’s added 26 or 28 years to his life too.”
