New Details Emerge on the Passing of Beloved ‘American Idol’ Family Member Robin Kaye: UPDATE

The official cause of death for the talented “American Idol family member and music supervisor, Robin Kaye, and her husband, Thomas DeLuca, has been confirmed.

According to death certificates published by People magazine, both 70-year-olds died of multiple gunshot wounds after being shot on July 10 at their Encino, California, home.

DeLuca died within seconds of his injuries, while Kaye lived for several minutes after being shot, the documents revealed. Their manner of death was listed as homicide.

Although the couple sustained fatal injuries on July 10, their date of death was officially recorded as July 14 at 4:14 p.m., when officers from the Los Angeles Police Department discovered their bodies.


Details From the Autopsies

Autopsies confirmed the cause of death for both Kaye and DeLuca, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. Kaye’s death certificate, issued initially on July 23, mistakenly stated no autopsy had been performed, but an amendment filed on August 4 corrected the record.

The couple was cremated on July 23.


The Unfateful Day of the Double Murders

On July 10, Kaye and DeLuca returned home after a grocery trip to find an intruder inside their $4.5 million home, according to a police affidavit (As reported by People). The suspect, described as wearing a baseball cap, gray shirt, and black sandals, allegedly used the couple’s own gun to shoot them multiple times in the head, execution-style.

The affidavit also revealed that the front door had been left unlocked and the alarm system disabled. Police received two 911 calls that day and visited the residence more than once, but it was not until July 14 that authorities discovered the bodies after a friend requested a welfare check.


Murder Suspect Faces Mental Health Evaluation

As per ABC News, on July 17, police charged 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree residential burglary in connection with the killings.

Boodarian appeared in a Van Nuys courtroom on August 20 wearing a suicide gown. Judge Martin L. Herscovitz suspended the arraignment, referring the case to a mental health court for evaluation after Boodarian failed to respond to questions. His public defender, Nancy Kolocotronis, told the court that Boodarian is allegedly suicidal.

As per CNN, Boodarian remains held without bail and is scheduled to appear in mental health court on September 3 in Hollywood. Judge Herscovitz said the arraignment would depend on the evaluation of Boodarian’s mental fitness, telling the court that continuing without his participation would not be “fair.”


‘American Idol’ Family is Mourning The Loss

On July 15, a spokesperson for “American Idol” stated on the show’s behalf, per KTLA. The statement read: “We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom’s, passing. Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever, and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”

Many of the contestants Kaye worked with over the years have turned to social media to share heartfelt tributes and express their grief over her tragic passing.
