Ryan Seacrest Reveals Favorite New Year’s Eve Memories, Including a Taylor Swift Mishap

Ryan Seacrest is sharing some of his favorite moments from “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” — and one of them involves Taylor Swift. The “American Idol” host has helmed the annual show since 2005, so there’s no shortage of great memories.

Ryan Seacrest Recalls ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ Snafu With Taylor Swift

During a December 30 interview with “Good Morning America,” Seacrest was asked about his favorite moments from “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”

Seacrest admitted, “It all kind of runs together. When we started the show, we did some performances. Now we’re going to have 42 different artists and over 90 performances.”

“So, there are moments like, when Jelly Roll was on stage and I walked out … you never know what’s going to happen because they’re so excited after the performance,” he shared. “And that turned into a helicopter, like a spinning spiral, body move that he put me into.”

“There are so many [bloopers],” Seacrest noted.

“I have communication in my ears to hear everything and who’s talking, all the co-hosts talking,” he explained. “Taylor Swift is next to me and she looked cold. And so I took off my coat and gave it to her — and I forgot all of my communications were attached.”

“So she was running the show,” Seacrest added. “She was hosting the show for a full segment.”

The host also reflected on the warm vibe of the New Year’s celebration. “It is that one moment for me when you are on television and you look out at everyone and there is this warmth,” he shared. “There are smiles on people’s faces, there is unity, there’s togetherness.”

Seacrest added, “It doesn’t last long, but it is significant to see it every time.”

Seacrest Prepares for ‘Longest, Biggest Show’

Seacrest also teased something new this year. “We’ve never done a show … this is going to be the longest, biggest show … in the history of ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.’ It’s an 8 hour show — in the cold,” he revealed.

The host shared a look at his prep for the big event, telling the “GMA” hosts that they “rehearse the whole 8 hour show with all the moving parts” outside on December 30. The next day, they “do the whole show again … before we do the show for you, at home.”

His secret? Coffee.

Seacrest showed a look at his pre-“GMA” coffee and workout in an Instagram post, noting in the caption, “GMA routine. We’re a day out from our 8 hour show!”

Fans lit up the comments section with messages for Seacrest ahead of the New Year’s Eve event.

“Keeping your energy up is good. You are better than me. I’d be sleeping in and saving mine!” one fan wrote. “Counting down the time to watch an amazing show with you and our friends!! Nothing better than starting off the New Year with people you love!”

Other fans shared, “Always a tradition to see the show with you! Happiest of New Years!” and “Can’t wait to see you!”

For those wondering why Seacrest drinks coffee with a straw, one fan cleared up any confusion, writing, “Per dentist recommendation, saves staining on front teeth and spills when in motion.”
