Andy Cohen Offers to Play Matchmaker for Soap Icon, 79

Andy Cohen wants to hook Susan Lucci up on a date.

The Bravo TV host made the offer when the “All My Children” icon appeared on “Watch What Happens Live” on Feb. 9. Lucci, who lost her husband Helmut Huber in 2022, appeared on the show to promote her new book, “La Lucci,” which focuses on finding joy after grief.

After Cohen asked Lucci, 79, if she planned to date, the legendary soap star replied, “I mean, I don’t think we’re meant to be alone. I think that’s true. So, we shall see.”

“I’m a hopeful romantic, let’s put it that way,” she added. “Not hopeless. Hopeful. …It would take a real person, not just hypothetical.”

Cohen then asked, “If I think of someone, can I text you?”

“Okay,” Lucci replied with a smile.

Unlike her iconic “All My Children” character Erica Kane, who was married 11 times to eight different men, Lucci had one very long marriage to Huber, from 1969 until his death in 2022.

Susan Lucci Said She Had to Choose Not to Be Sad

During her WWHL appearance, Lucci shared the main takeaway she hopes fans get from her book.

“That there are choices that you could make,” she said. “Very impactful experiences, certainly [Huber’s death] was the most. And  I was done, I was lost, and I met someone who said that you have a choice and you can choose just not to be so sad all the time.”

“And that was the first step to taking steps, and you have resilience in you,” she continued. “I came back to my career, to my work that I totally forgot that I even did, and it was a help. It’s been part of the healing.”

Lucci, who married her husband one year before landing her life-changing role as Erica Kane, previously told People magazine she found a love like no other with Huber in the 1960s.

“The minute I fell in love like I did with my husband, I knew how vulnerable I was,” she shared. “I was completely lost [after he died]. And it’s so isolating. You feel so alone, even though I had the most wonderful friend … I am so grateful for the people who stood by me.”

Cohen has never hidden his adoration for Lucci, so it’s no surprise that he wants her to find love once again. In 1987, the future Bravo TV host and producer was lucky enough to interview his idol for his college newspaper.

Lucci was a guest on a 2016 episode of Cohen’s Sirius XM podcast. During their chat, Cohen recalled that he sent a letter to Lucci’s publicist to request the interview nearly 40 years ago. Lucci revealed that she saw the note and that Cohen’s words “jumped off the page,” so she agreed to meet with him.

After playing back part of the college interview, Cohen told Lucci, “I am so in love with you I can’t get the words out.”
