When it comes to “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” few fans know the franchise as deeply as “What What Crappens” co-host Ben Mandelker. In an exclusive chat with Entertainment Now, Mandelker shared his take on the evolution of Bravo’s longest-running Housewives series, crediting Tamra Judge with changing the trajectory of the show.
Ben Mandelker Credits Tamra Judge With Shaping RHOC’s Tone
“The tone was totally different,” Mandelker explained. “The tone was very much like, this is a peek inside a gated community. And it was just sort of like vignettes. It wasn’t contributing to an overall storyline about the relationship between the women.”
According to Mandelker, everything shifted when Judge entered the cast in season three. “With Tamra, it became about how women related to each other a bit more,” he said. “She definitely was catty. She is catty. She caused friction among the cast members. And then the show really kind of came about that.”
Mandelker also reflected on the iconic season four “Naked Wasted” episode, which continues to spark debate. “We’re reliving all that now, because we’re talking about season four, ‘Naked Wasted,’ every week. Can you believe it? And it’s still, to me, it’s still hitting,” he said.
The ‘Watch What Crappens’ Co-Host Weighs In on Lie Detector Drama
As season 19 continues, RHOC’s lie detector controversy has dominated headlines. Mandelker didn’t hold back when asked who he believes. “I think Katie [Ginella]’s a liar. I think Gretchen [Rossi]’s a liar. I think Tamra’s a liar. I think they all are lying,” he told Entertainment Now.
For Mandelker, the bigger issue is accountability. “None of them are holding space for the idea that they might not be remembering things exactly right about what they’ve said in the past,” he said. “It seems like a very obvious thing to me.”
He pointed to Gretchen’s conflicting hospital claims as an example. “She’s the one who said, I went to the hospital and then said I didn’t go to the hospital. I need Andy [Cohen] in a reunion right now because it’s kind of being glossed over,” Mandelker said.
As for the polygraph test, Mandelker questioned the consistency of the cast’s reactions. “Every single cast member has questioned the credibility of this polygraph because if the polygraph either said that they lied and they denied that they lied, or said that someone was being truthful and they say, well, no, they were lying, then the polygraph was wrong,” he explained. “And yet when it comes to Katie, this polygraph is perfect. Right? No errors whatsoever.”
With his sharp analysis and signature humor, Mandelker reminded fans why “What What Crappens” remains a go-to podcast for Housewives commentary.
“The Real Housewives of Orange County” season 19 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
