Ella Langley’s country music career skyrocketed after releasing her song, “Choosin’ Texas.” What fans may not have known at the time was that country superstar Miranda Lambert had a hand in helping Langley write the smash hit.
The track ultimately made music history, setting a new record for the most weeks spent at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by a female artist. Langley’s success didn’t stop there as she also became the first woman to simultaneously top three Billboard charts: the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Country Airplay charts.
So, it goes without saying that Lambert is especially proud of Langley. In a recent interview with Billboard, Lambert shared how she has remained one of the “Be Her” singer’s strongest supporters and mentors as her career soars to new heights.
Miranda Lambert Shares How She Has Been Mentoring Ella Langley Following Her Massive Music Success
Following the massive success of “Choosin’ Texas,” Miranda Lambert, who co-wrote the song alongside Ella Langley, revealed in a new interview with Billboard how she’s helped guide Langley through the whirlwind of newfound fame and success.
“What Iโve done is try to use the knowledge that Iโve gained by being in the industry for over 20 years to really lift up the younger generations coming up and trying to be there for them and answer questions,” she shared, adding, “Sometimes I know the right way to do it, because I did it wrong.”
Lambert told the outlet that she had never experienced that kind of overwhelming success in her own career, sharing, “It was not on my bingo card for โChoosinโ Texasโ to take over the world.”
She continued, “So when Ella calls and is like, โWhat does this mean?โ Iโm like, โI donโt know. You might need to call Taylor Swift right now [and ask her], because this is, like, that kind of big.'”
Langley later expressed how grateful she was to be able to lean on someone like Lambert, who knows what it takes to be a successful country artist. “Thereโs not a rule book to this job. So [itโs helpful] to be able to have someone like her to ask questions [like], โShould I be doing this?โ Sheโs like, โHell yeah, you should be doing this!โ Itโs just a cool time for the both of us,” she said.
For Lambert, she’s just a “hype girl” for Langley. โIโm either talking her off a ledge or hyping her up, because she knows exactly what she wants,โ she said, adding, โWeโre girls; we talk each other off the ledge all the time.”
“Choosin’ Texas’ appears on Langley’s new album “Dandelion,” which also features Lambert on the track “Butterfly Season.”
‘Choosin’ Texas’ Won Song of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards
GettyAnd, if breaking Billboard chart history wasn’t enough, the women also celebrated winning Song of the Year for “Choosin’ Texas” at the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards in May.
While accepting the award, Langley, joined on stage with Lambert and other co-writers, shared, “If you ever met me, you’d know I am not at a loss for words very often. All I gotta say is thank you, God, for putting me in a room with these three people right here.”
She continued, “We have a little group message called ‘Choosin’, and we send stats in there all the time, and none of us believe it when it comes through. We’re just so grateful. Thank you for loving this song.”
In fact, Langley would also make history at the ACM Awards when she broke the record for most wins in a single year with seven awards, including taking home Female Artist of the Year.
