After more than three decades of chart-topping hits, sold-out tours, and a voice that helped define ‘90s country, Trace Adkins is opening up about the possibility of stepping away from the spotlight. The 64-year-old star recently admitted that retirement may have been “10 years overdue,” leaving fans wondering whether his current 30th anniversary tour could mark the beginning of a farewell chapter in his legendary career.
Trace Adkins Hints at Retirement
The “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” hitmaker talked to Entertainment Tonight during a red carpet interview. When asked about retirement, Adkins said he believes stepping away from his career is 10 years overdue.
“I knew 10 years ago,” he joked. However, he had one person standing in his way. He continued, “My accountant was like, ‘No, not yet.’”
While he’s had the thought of retiring, Adkins did say he appreciates his loyal fanbase and how he’s still able to entertain these people.
“I just can’t believe I’m still around,” the country music legend said. “And, maybe somewhat relevant, you know, still. I’m just proud to be here and glad that I’ve had fans that have stuck with me all these decades.”
30th Anniversary Tour
This talk of retirement and bidding farewell to the road life comes just one month after Adkins announced his 30th Anniversary Tour. If this happens to be his farewell tour, then fans still have time to purchase tickets to help him say goodbye.
Addressing that topic of retirement even more, Adkins said, “I’m gonna give ’em another year…I do not have another 30 in me. I do not. I’m gonna give ’em this year. I’m gonna tour hard this year. But then I can’t promise anything after that.”
