Former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Chrishell Stause has announced her departure from Netflix’s “Selling Sunset” after 9 successful seasons. The 44-year-old real estate agent and actress confirmed her exit in a candid interview with Bustle, citing concerns about her mental health and personal well-being.
Stause, who joined the show as an original cast member when it premiered in 2019, has become one of the most recognizable faces on the popular real estate reality series. Her journey on the show has included personal milestones, professional growth, and various interpersonal conflicts that have entertained audiences worldwide.
The announcement comes following a particularly challenging ninth season that featured intense drama between Stause and several cast members, including longtime friend Emma Hernan and newcomer Nicole Young. The season’s conflicts ultimately influenced her decision to step away from the series.
Despite the difficulties she faced during filming, Stause emphasized that her choice wasn’t made lightly. The financial security provided by the show made the decision particularly complex, given her humble beginnings and appreciation for the opportunities it created.
Financial Independence Influences Decision
In her interview with Bustle, Stause explained the practical considerations behind her departure. “I’ve gotten to a place where I don’t need the show financially,” she revealed. “I’m lucky to have other forms of employment, because it’s no longer good for my mental health.”
The reality star acknowledged the internal struggle she faced when making this choice. “I’ve vacillated back and forth with this decision in the past. I have to be honest — having come from nothing, it’s really hard to turn something like this down,” she shared with the publication.
Her determination to prioritize personal wellness over professional obligations became clear when she stated that not even “Jesus Christ himself” could convince her to return for additional seasons.
The decision crystallized during the filming of the season nine reunion special, which Stause described as particularly difficult. “I think, after so many hours, I felt like, ‘Sit here, get through it. You’re not a quitter, but you never have to do this again,'” she told the outlet.
Stause Looks Forward with Optimism
Despite the circumstances surrounding her exit, Stause maintained a gracious attitude toward the show and her former colleagues. “If they do continue, I wish them the best,” she explained. “The show has given me so many opportunities, and I don’t want to be bitter about it, even though I’m leaving not in the way that I would’ve loved.”
Her future plans include focusing on projects that align with her personal values and identity. “Since I’ve come out, I think four or five things I’ve done have all been queer,” she noted, expressing interest in leading holiday movies featuring LGBTQ+ storylines.
Stause’s departure represents a significant shift for “Selling Sunset,” though Netflix has not yet officially announced whether the series will continue for a tenth season.
