The four remaining dancers on “Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro” on ABC will be fighting for a spot in next week’s finale. We are on the hunt for the next pro dancer to debut on “DWTS” Season 35. For tonight’s episode, they’ll be working with what could turn out to be their coworkers in the fall. Yes, they’ll be dancing with pro dancers from “DWTS.” “Dancing With the Stars” pro dancer Kym Johnson will serve as a guest mentor and judge tonight. Paired With the Pros on ‘DWTS: The Next Pro’
It was all about teaching ballroom to novices on this “Dancing With the Stars’ spinoff last week, as the dancers were tasked with teaching “DWTS” superfans a ballroom routine in just two days. The judges were impressed by all, but the journey did end for one of the dancers.
For tonight, it’s the opposite for these contestants. They will, instead, be paired with some of the pro dancers from “Dancing With the Stars.” Host Robert Irwin will be leading things in the ballroom. In the end, another dancer will be sent home. The Semifinals Begin
We are down to the Final 4. A spot in the finals is up for grabs. Who will make it? We find out tonight! The judges (Mark and Shirley Ballas) are in place. Our guest judge this week is Kym Johnson!
For this week’s challenges, all of the creative choices in this round will be theirs. They will be watching to see that they can teach and create to the level expected for “Dancing With the Stars.” The judges need to see if they have the choreography, the teaching skills, and the personality. For the first time on this show, the dancers will be performing two full dances in just two days!
For the dances, they will be dancing with each other one last time. Then, for the second performance, they will be dancing with some of the “Dancing With the Stars” pros: Rylee Arnold, Gleb Savchenko, Jan Ravnik, and Witney Carson. They come out and perform a routine for everyone to enjoy.
With the pros, the dancers will each be dancing to a different Latin style. It’s all about teaching and choreography. The pairings and dance styles:
- Allen & Witney – Jive
- Adele & Gleb – Samba
- AJ & Rylee – Cha Cha
- Selena & Jan – Salsa
Even though they are dancing with the pros, the dancers will be responsible for everything. From the choreography to teaching the pro. They will report to the judges on their coaching skills.
Rehearsal Time
The dancers are excited to be in the studio with the pros. Adele is excited to be dancing with a pro and feels like she is back home dancing with her partner.
For Witney, she is struggling not to do the choreography. She said Allen needs to work on his confidence. Selena loves that Jan is a commercial dancer also. She said she is working with a pro, so she needs to step up the moves and content. Rylee thinks AJ might get upset with a celebrity if they don’t get it.
Pro Feedback
The judges sit down with the pro dancer. Jan said Selena is good. Gleb said he felt like he was back in his old school days. He wanted a more wow moment in it.
Witney said Allen needs to gain more confidence. Rylee said she is worried AJ wouldn’t be able to give affirmations to the celebrities.
Show Night
We have no time to waste tonight since two performances! We are at show night. The judges are in place, so time to get to these routines!
Allen & Witney
I just enjoy Allen. He has good vibes and energy. They were having fun out there, and it was high energy.
Judges’ Feedback: Shirley said it was excellent with the side-by-side work, but Witney has more wow moments you didn’t show. Kym said it was jam-packed with Jive content, but wanted more Witney moments. Mark said he disagrees and that it was the best Jive of the season.
Selena & Jan
I think they paired well together. They had some fun moves in there. Those wow-type moments you want to see. It was fun and entertaining.
Judges’ Feedback: Mark said she nailed the brief. This is exactly what they wanted to see. They cleaned it like commercial dancers. Kym said Selena is a star. It was such clever choreography. Shirley said Selena’s balance is extraordinary. The chemistry was fantastic.
Adele & Gleb
Adele is very intense, but this was a good routine. I am not a fan of her facial expressions, though. It seems too much for me.
Judges’ Feedback: Kym said Adele, you absolutely nailed it. You are an incredible teacher. Mark said Adele moves like a hooded cobra who is ready to attack. Shirley said she likes that she included Gleb, and they looked like a power couple. She wanted one or two more wow moments.
AJ & Rylee
I think AJ is so focused on this that he is missing out on the fact that he is competing to be on a show he has always wanted. It’s too intense, but enjoy the moment also. The routine is fun, and they looked good, though.
Judges’ Feedback: Shirley said he put everything but the kitchen sink. He captured the essence of cha cha and included Rylee. Kym said she loved that he gave Rylee her own moments. Mark said it lacked some soul and funk and grit. He wants to see more of the funkier side.
Second Performance
The dancers will now dance one more time with each other. The ladies draw cards for partners, and the guys draw cards for the dance style:
- Adele & AJ – Foxtrot
- Selena & Allen – Quickstep
It’s now to the rehearsal studio for the couples. AJ is so intense tonight and almost rude. I am annoyed by him. Selena had Quickstep last week, so she is excited to redeem herself. They are working in all of Mark’s critiques from last week into their routine tonight.
After rehearsals, they are back in the house. They know someone’s dream of becoming a pro ends tomorrow, so the pressure is on.
Show Night #2
We are back in the ballroom. This is the final challenge to see which dancers make next week’s finale!
Selena & Allen
They definitely seemed to be moving around the floor more this time for Selena. This was fun and upbeat. I liked the special moments in there too. It was entertaining.
Judges’ Feedback: Shirley said we are one step away from the finale, and they both did well. They have personality. Kym said she was impressed with the musicality they have. Mark said it was bubbly and loved the interpretation of the mood. He loved them both as performers, and they both have charisma and pop.
Adele & AJ
There was a dance move where Adele basically twisted her body around completely. Wow is all I have to say. I am not a fan of AJ and his constant fake smile, though.
Judges’ Feedback: Mark said that was gorgeous. Kym said Adele is so sultry. It was perfection. Shirley said AJ is truly a star. They are the new generation for “Dancing With the Stars.”
Results on ‘DWTS: The Next Pro’
The judges have discussed the dancers. They are back on the dance floor. Shirley said this was an exceptional semifinal. The judges have confirmed, and they said there has been one dancer who has underperformed. The dancer eliminated tonight is Allen.
