DWTS Season 34 Finalist Celebrates Major Legal Triumph

A fan favorite “Dancing with the Stars” season 34 finalist has a big win to celebrate. Jordan Chiles did not take home the Mirrorball trophy. However, Chiles received great news about a significant Olympic-related matter.

On January 29, USA Gymnastics released a statement regarding a decision that came down from the Swiss Federal Supreme Court.

“We are pleased the Swiss Federal Supreme Court recognized the flaws in the initial process and that Jordan’s case can now be heard inclusive of all relevant evidence,” stated USA Gymnastics.

The organization continued, “We look forward to a fair arbitration that includes the clear evidence proving the inquiry into Jordan’s score was filed well within 1 minute as required by FIG rules.”

The organization’s statement came after the Swiss Federal Supreme Court published a press release regarding the case.

The case revolves around Chiles’ placement in the women’s individual artistic gymnastics floor exercise competition during the 2024 Paris Olympics. After her routine, Chiles’ coach lodged a complaint regarding the gymnast’s score.

Chiles finished in third place after a score adjustment. However, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation filed an appeal which led to Chiles losing the bronze medal. The organization alleged that the complaint by Chile’s team missed the one-minute time limit.

Without the score adjustment, Chiles fell out of third place. The press release addresses a subsequent appeal by Chiles’ team.

In its statement, the Swiss Federal Supreme Court noted the “highly exceptional circumstances of the case in question.” The court “partially overturns the contested award and refers the case back to the CAS [Court of Arbitration for Sport] for a new ruling.”

A review of an audio-visual recording is central to the decision made by the Swiss Federal Supreme Court. The recording suggests that Chiles’ coach filed their appeal within the amount of time allowed.

Jordan Chiles & Her Team Feel ‘Delighted’ by the Decision

USA Gymnastics will “continue to support” efforts made by Chiles and her team to ensure the gymnast can keep her bronze medal.

USA Today shared a statement released by Chiles’ attorney, Maurice Suh, after the decision. “We are delighted that the Swiss Federal Supreme Court has righted a wrong and given Jordan the chance she deserves to reclaim her bronze medal.”

Suh’s statement continued, “We also appreciate the Court’s recognition that ‘extraordinary time pressure’ and notification defects prevented Jordan from presenting the important evidence in August 2024.”

“We appreciate that Jordan will receive a full and fair opportunity to defend her bronze medal,” the statement concluded.
