Disney+ Sets Sights on a New Series Centered on A Beloved Peter Pan Character

When most people think of “Peter Pan,” a few iconic characters might come to mind. From Peter Pan himself to Wendy and Captain Hook, the novel and movies were filled with some interesting and memorable characters. But, perhaps its most beloved character of all is Tinker Bell herself.

Known as a bubbly and hot-tempered fairy, Tinker Bell is the heart of the story, and the chant “I believe in fairies” is perhaps the most iconic line in the movie. So, perhaps it’s no surprise that a series about her is coming to Hollywood.

According to Variety, while a project about Tinker Bell, named “Tink,” has recently been prioritized, the title has been in the works in some capacity for at least a decade.

Back in 2010, for instance, a live-action romantic comedy about Tinker Bell was in pre-production, with “The Better Sister” star Elizabeth Banks attached to star and Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and McG as producers. Five years later, Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon was linked to the project, described as a live-action film based on the “Peter Pan” character Tinker Bell.

In reality, however, none of these projects came into fruition, with the only Tinker Bell appearance onscreen in the last decade being Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell in the 2023 live-action film, “Peter Pan and Wendy.”

But while the last few attempts surrounding “Tink” fell through, Disney+ is now giving it another go and reclassifying it as a “high priority project.”

Already, Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter, who previously worked together on “Friday Night Lights,” are set to write and executive produce. They will executive produce alongside former Disney Channels Worldwide president/Disney Branded Television president and chief creative officer Gary Marsh and Quinn Haberman of Heldens’ Selfish Mermaid company.

Prior to “Tink,” Tinker Bell, originally created in J.M. Barrie’s novel “Peter Pan” in 1904, was the subject of a few animated movies, including “Tinker Bell” in 2008, “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure” in 2009 and “Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast” in 2014. She also became the unofficial Disney mascot after the 1953 animated film, becoming known as a symbol for the network far beyond the movies themselves.

A live-action story about Tinker Bell, however, has yet to grace the screens. Until now.
