Anne Opened Up About ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Now & Then

The Devil Wears Prada was a seminal film for the fashion industry — and for its star Anne Hathaway. Now, two decades after it reached cult status, the long-awaited sequel is here, and the actor is revisiting the role from a very different vantage point,” according to Vogue Australia.

During the interview, Vogue Australia suggested they “go back in time,” before adding, “The year is 2005. You are 22 years old. You’re on the set of The Devil Wears Prada. Who was that girl?”

“She was scared, man,” Hathaway admitted. “She was just trying her best. But she still had a lot to learn. Nervous, but good-hearted, and knew how lucky she was, and was just really scared of messing up. But she was working with unbelievable people who were not gonna let her mess up and who treated her with such extraordinary patience and kindness. And then 20 years later, she was so happy to come back to them — a more grown version of herself — and say thank you.”

As for how Hathaway sees the movie and its sequel these days, Vogue Australia first claimed that “The Devil Wears Prada works because it takes the pursuit of greatness seriously. And also what it might cost you if that’s something you are striving for.”

Hathaway responded by asking, “And is that the greatness that you want?”

“Exactly,” the interviewer replied. “Is that something you identify in the story too?”

“The film suggests that Miranda is the greatest editor-in-chief alive, and it shows the way she has done it has been successful for her,” Hathaway said. “That doesn’t mean it’s the only way to do it. I can’t give too much away about the movie, but the whole question about how people do it and whether or not it is a solo effort, or whether different people bring different gifts to the table, and actually the true gift is cultivating a team — it might be a relevant question.”
