Kaling is one of the program creators for the hit series, which stars Kate Hudson and Brenda Song, and she posed for photos on the red carpet and spoke onstage. For the event, she opted for a fitted black dress, which featured sheer detailing on the top and the sleeves and a silver-studded top. Kaling accessorized with a statement silver ring and silver drop earrings, and she wore her hair down.

This is the second public event Kaling has attended this month, for which she grabbed attention for her fashionable appearance. She looked beautiful as she stepped onto the red carpet at the Fashion Trust U.S. 2026 Awards, which were held at Nya Studios in Los Angeles, California, on April 8. She wore a light blue gown.

Mindy Kaling’s Love of Fashion

Kaling is passionate about fashion and has been a regular at fashion shows and events. In a 2014 interview with Flare magazine, the actress spoke about her love for clothing, saying, “I love clothing so much, it almost scares me sometimes,” Glamour reports. 

She also spoke about style and how clothes fit women with curves in a different way. “If you love fashion and you’re not skinny and something fits you, most stylists are like, ‘That’s great for you,’ and it sucks,” she said, Glamour reports. “I have my own taste, and I want to try weird stuff …” However, in recent years, Kaling has lost a significant amount of weight, with a focus on a health transformation. She is believed to have lost around 40 pounds. 

In an interview with People in September 2025, Kaling spoke about her style favorites and who she would love to sit with at a fashion show. “I think Colman Domingo because he is just so chic. Zendaya because she’s also just gorgeous,” she said. “These are people that I’m just thinking about how stylish they are. My mom was incredibly stylish, so I would’ve loved it for her to be there.” Her mother, Swati Chokalingam, died in 2012.
