Guy Fieri is sharing how a serious on-set injury changed his outlook on life — and how he’s getting back on his feet just in time for Super Bowl LX.
The Food Network star, 58, opened up about his recovery after suffering a painful fall while filming his upcoming series “Flavortown Food Fight” in Northern California in November 2025. The accident left him temporarily in a wheelchair and forced him to slow down during the holiday season.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday, January 27, Fieri reflected on how the experience gave him a new perspective.
“It does give you appreciation for being healthy,” he said. “You look at people that have disabilities and realize, we take a lot of things for granted. Folks that are on crutches and stuff, you know, the next time you see somebody on crutches, maybe clear a little bit of a path. Open the door for them.”
Guy Fieri Details the Injury and His Road to Recovery
Fieri explained that the injury happened when he slipped on a staircase during production.
“I slipped and went all the way down the stairs,” he told the outlet. “My right leg got caught on the threshold door… I’m kind of halfway doing the splits going down the stairs, about a three-foot drop, and then it just took that leg and compressed it, snapped my quad muscle on the center of my leg in half. Literally in half.”
The accident forced Fieri to rely more on his family, including wife Lori Fieri and their children.
“I’ve always been that way as a person, but especially this thing of not being able to get around,” he said. “We come back to the grocery store and she’s carrying the groceries. That’s just not how it works in my world.”
He added that his kids “stepped up big” during Thanksgiving and Christmas.
“They did the cooking,” Fieri shared. “There was a lot of silver linings to it. But now I’m better, now I’m back.”
Earlier this month, Fieri told People that doctors urged him not to rush his recovery.
“My doctors are all like, ‘We know you want to get after it, but let’s not go back to where we were,’” he said. “That was the worst thing I’ve been through in the last 20 years.”
He added that he expected to be “up and ready and healthy and rolling” by the time Super Bowl LX arrives in February.

As he continued healing, Fieri also surprised fans with a dramatic makeover for his 58th birthday.
The “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” star shared a video on social media showing off a toned-down brunette look, clean-shaven face, and khaki slacks — a sharp contrast to his signature spiky hair and goatee.
“Hey there! After so many years of celebrating my birthday as Guy, I figured this year I’d celebrate it as JustaGuy,” he said in the clip. “Happy birthday to me!” He added in the caption, “New Year. New Guy. New Look.”
Fieri later told Delish that even his wife had trouble adjusting.
“She looked at me and went, ‘Oh boy,’” he recalled. “When I came out with my khakis and my polo button-down shirt and my white tennis shoes and no jewelry… she goes, ‘I don’t remember what Guy looked like back in the day with brown hair and no goatee.’”
Because he was filming “Tournament of Champions” at the time, Fieri couldn’t shave his facial hair and relied on CGI to complete the transformation.
“They brought in a CGI guy because I couldn’t shave my goatee,” he explained. “‘Just a Guy’ doesn’t speak as aggressively… so it took a little bit to find who ‘Just a Guy’ was.”
Fieri called the commercial one of the biggest moments of his career. “I wouldn’t have done this with anybody else,” he said of the collaboration.
“If we’re going to do it, we got to do it. These guys brought this idea, and it was full throttle.”
