Martha Stewart Reveals the Actress Cast to Play Her In Upcoming Movie

Martha Stewart has apparently spilled the beans on who has been cast to play her in an upcoming biopic.

The lifestyle guru revealed the news at the New York premiere of “Brunello: The Gracious Visionary.”

Stewart shared the news on the red carpet of the premiere, Variety reported.

When asked if she would ever want someone to play her in a movie, Stewart smiled and said “I hope so,” and stated she’d been “hearing rumours.”

“I think there’s something in the works right now with… Cate Blanchett,” she shared, before stating the project was titled “Good Thing.”

Blanchett has previously portrayed famous figures such as the Queen of England (“Elizabeth”), Katharine Hepburn (“The Aviator”), and even Bob Dylan (“I’m Not There”).

The name is a nod to Stewart’s famous “Martha Stewart Living” catchphrase, “It’s a good thing.”

Variety later confirmed the news, adding that Janicza Bravo (“Zola”) is on board to direct. Blanchett is also set to produce the film with Coco Francini of Dirty Films, alongside Randy Manis and Neil Dodson. Ricky Tollman is reportedly writing the project.

Martha Stewart Had Some Opinions About Netflix Documentary ‘Martha’

It’s not the first time Stewart’s life will be portrayed onscreen – but hopefully she’ll be happier with this result.

In 2024, Netflix released the documentary “Martha,” but Stewart wasn’t a fan.

“[Director] R.J. [Cutler] had total access, and he really used very little,” she told the New York Times. “It was just shocking.”

Stewart had particular issues with the second half of the documentary, which she referred to as “lazy.”

“Those last scenes with me looking like a lonely old lady walking hunched over in the garden? Boy, I told him to get rid of those. And he refused. I hate those last scenes. Hate them,” she said.

She also had an issue with her friend Snoop Dogg being excluded from the soundtrack.

“I said to R.J., ‘An essential part of the film is that you play rap music,'” she recalled. “Dr. Dre will probably score it, or Snoop or Fredwreck. I said, ‘I want that music.’ And then he gets some lousy classical score in there, which has nothing to do with me.”

However, she did like some aspects of the documentary. “I love the first half of the documentary. It gets into things that many people don’t know anything about, which is what I like about it,” she shared.

Fingers crossed Stewart will be happier with Blanchett’s portrayal.
