Cameron Mathison Shares Emotional Look at Treasured Items Recovered After Wildfire

Former Hallmark actor Cameron Mathison and his family are still navigating the devastating loss of their California home. The home was destroyed in January during the wildfires, and in a new interview, the “Hannah Swensen Mysteries” alum took “Access Hollywood” to tour the property in its current state.

Mathison noted that he and his family are incredibly resilient, and they have found ways to embrace the memories they have of their years in the home. At the same time, the Hallmark alum noted, it’s been a very difficult experience.

Cameron Mathison Feels More Sad Each Time He Visits the Property

On September 9, “Access Hollywood” shared their visit with Mathison to the property where the family’s home once stood. The actor admitted it felt “just so surreal” to be at the site. “It doesn’t even feel like it’s the same place, the same street, the same block, the same neighborhood,” he acknowledged.

This was not the first time since the fire that Mathison had shared a video showing him at the property. However, he admitted, “Every time I come up, it just, in a way, gets more and more sad because there’s just less and less living.”

As Mathison walked around the property, he picked up some broken Christmas tree decorations that were still there. He noted that the decorations and tree had still been standing when the fire destroyed the home.

The actor got emotional at times. He explained, “This is where my kids were raised. Everything that I’ve ever owned in my life was here. Everything that my kids have ever owned was here.”

Mathison noted, “We’re a very positive, resilient family. But, at the same time, this has been a tough one, man.”

The family is still trying to determine what they will do with the property. Mathison previously said they hoped to rebuild. However, he shared that “We’re still kind of in flux on whether or not we can rebuild.”

A rope swing still hangs from one tree, and Mathison revealed that it was a swing the kids used when they were younger. The pool is still standing, and Mathison talked about all the family memories that were built in the home’s backyard.

Some Treasured Family Items Were Recovered

In addition to the swing and the pool, Mathison showed a couple of belongings that partially survived the fire. One was a decorative iron railing, a “Juliet balcony,” that had been located off his daughter’s bedroom.

Mathison noted, “It fell off, and it bounced away from most of the fire. So, it survived, pretty well, actually.”

Not only did the Juliet balcony from his daughter’s room make it through the fire, but a part of the family’s grand piano she loved to play was also recovered. Mathison explained that she was “So devastated with the visual of her piano burning in the flames.”

One portion of the piano was discovered in the ruins of the home as well. “I have no idea how we’re going to be able to keep and utilize this in the new space, but I’d love it to be some sort of piece of art,” Mathison shared.
