On September 9, “The Drew Barrymore Show” ran its popular segment, “50 F***-Its.” It featured Halle Berry, Valerie Bertinelli, and Nate Burleson. But, while Hallmark star Andie MacDowell couldn’t make it in person, she didn’t miss the chance to send a powerful video message.
Andi, who currently plays Del Landry in “The Way Home,” has long been a champion for women’s confidence and self-worth as they age. Still, hearing her eloquent and passionate words not only resonated strongly with everyone in the audience but also with everyone watching the show.
Redefining Beauty: Andie’s Words on Aging and Self-Love
First, Drew, Halle, and Valerie talked about when they began to “feel differently about life” due to perimenopause. Then, Nate talked about supporting the women in his life who are changing. Then, Drew began to introduce Andie, noting that she was only 16 years old when she first met her on “Bad Girls.”
“I love you, Drew, thank you for doing this.” Andie began her video message. “I look back on my grandmother, who was the matriarch, a strong woman. We just revered her, we respected her. We never would have ever expected her to look young. That was not a concept that existed. And this concept has demeaned us as we age. It has now made us feel shameful.”
“I have three little grandchildren, and I’m going to be a grandmother for them, and I’m going to look like I’m supposed to look because I love myself, and I don’t have to look young. And I love you for doing this,” she added, blowing kisses at the camera.
Andie MacDowell Made Going Gray Fashionable
The 67-year-old Hollywood icon’s outspoken pro-aging message began to get louder around the time she started embracing her silver hair.
“When my hair started growing out during the pandemic, I felt like it was time to embrace my age and be comfortable with where I was in my life,” she told T Magazine earlier this year.
“I realized going gray wasn’t going to be detrimental [to my career]; in fact, I think it made me more unique and powerful,” she added.
Andie has also proven that she has no problem defending herself from haters. In August, she posted a sweet photo of herself and one of her grandchildren on Facebook. When someone left a negative comment about the way she looked, she addressed it.
“I would like for you to know Ron is gone!” She began. “We don’t need his negative energy. Most of the time I hear the kind comments about my appearance, though honestly it’s my heart I want you to see. So I’m not really worried about his opinion.”
She proclaimed that women should be free to decide whether to go natural or color their hair. “As long as it makes the woman happy,” she said.
“I am happy with my silver hair,” she added. “It brings me joy.”
