Jodie Sweetin Shares a Candid Admission That Has Fans Praising Her Honesty

Jodie Sweetin has been an entertainer since she was a young girl, but her career has faced significant setbacks over the years due to personal struggles in her real life.

Sweetin is perhaps most known for her time playing Stephanie Tanner in both “Full House” and” Fuller House.” However, she has also starred in Hallmark’s “The Jane Mysteries” and even competed on season 22 of “Dancing with the Stars.”

Sweetin has openly talked about her issues with addiction at different points in her life, and she recently revealed some details that are likely new to her fans.

During a November 20 appearance on “The Skinny Confidential” podcast, Sweetin discussed her first experience with alcohol, which occurred at a surprising event. She also admitted that when she was in her 20s, she didn’t think she would make it to the age of 30.

Jodie Sweetin’s 1st Time Getting Drunk Was at Candace Cameron Bure’s Wedding

During the podcast, Sweetin was asked if her addictions grew slowly or quickly. She revealed that the first time she ever drank was when she was a guest at the wedding of her “Full House” co-star Candace Cameron Bure.

Bure, who starred in numerous Hallmark projects such as the “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries” movies before leaving the network for Great American Family, wed Valeri Bure at the age of 20 in 1996. At the time, Sweetin was 13 or 14, she noted during the podcast.

Sweetin admitted that even with that first time drinking alcohol, she was “just a blackout drinker.” At Bure’s wedding, “The last thing I remember doing, I think, is somewhere around the ‘M’ of the “YMCA” [song], and then I don’t remember anything from the rest of the night.”

“It was awful, and it was ugly, and it was embarrassing, and my mother was horrified,” Sweetin admitted.

Sweetin Knew at an Early Age That her Partying Was Unlike That of Her Peers

That first night of drinking, Sweetin drank the red wine that was available to all the wedding guests. It did not end well, as she quipped on the podcast, “the bathroom was very white, not a good mix.”

“I was horrified the next day, and I felt awful,” Sweetin recalled. At the same time, she explained, something “clicked” after her wild evening, and she also realized, “Oooh, that was fun.”

Despite later feeling “horrified,” that experience kicked off a years-long struggle with alcohol. During the podcast, Sweetin admitted, “I definitely knew at an early age, I’d say around 15, 16, I knew that I drank and partied in a way that my friends did not.”

During those years, when friends would vocalize their concerns about her partying, Sweetin would think, “Okay, well, now I gotta go find something that I can do these drugs with, or it was finding different people that didn’t make you feel so bad about what you were doing,” she explained.

Sweetin’s fans loved her honesty.

“This is so inspiring…JODIE I’m so happy she is better,” one fan commented on Instagram.

“Wow [you’re] very inspirational thank you for your story,” another wrote.

Someone else added, “Jodie was always one of my favorites to watch growing up and as an adult seeing her activism and strength, love her even more!!”
