Nikki DeLoach Opens Up About ‘Struggling’ While Her Friends Became the ‘Most Famous People in the World’

Nikki DeLoach is a huge star in the Hallmark universe, with more than 20 movies under her belt and four more set to premiere in late 2025 and early 2026. But fame and success did not come easily to DeLoach, 45, who got her start as a teen on “The Mickey Mouse Club.”

That was a hard pill to swallow, DeLoach vulnerably admitted on an August 2025 episode of the “Blonde Highlights” podcast, as she watched so many of her peers and friends from “The Mickey Mouse Club” become global superstars, including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Keri Russell, JC Chasez, Ryan Gosling, and her dear friend Justin Timberlake.

“It was really hard,” she said, “because I was like, ‘Wait, God’ — I’m a big faith person — I was like, ‘Did you forget about me? I’m just as talented. I work just as hard. Like, how is it that every single one of my friends — Britney, Justin, Ryan, Christina –like, they all, you know, became so successful so fast?”

After her time on “The Mickey Mouse Club” ended, DeLoach joined a world-touring girl group called Innosense — but the experience was fraught with uncertainty and financial woes, she told The Retaility in 2023. The Georgia native moved to Los Angeles and enrolled in community college, taking on small acting roles to try to make ends meet.

On the “Blonde Highlights” podcast, she recalled, “I came out of the ‘Mickey Mouse Club’ and my peers became the most famous people in the world when I was struggling to buy produce.”

Looking back, DeLoach said her struggles did come with a silver lining, noting, “I will say that ‘failure’ probably was the key to being a very grounded quote-unquote ‘normal person.'”

But it took years to embrace her self-worth, DeLoach admitted, saying that the entertainment industry “tells you that you’re only important when you’re working.”

“People only want you when you’re working,” she explained. “And that is true. That’s how this industry treats you. It can really do so much damage to you spiritually, mentally, emotionally.”

In 2022, DeLoach told The Retaility, “I still struggle with this, but when you’re raised as a child to believe that your value is dependent on if you’re working, if you’re succeeding, if you’re doing all of these things. When that’s not there, you feel worthless. Also, there’s the trap of the ego of feeling like you are important because you have a hit show or a movie that just did well.”

Marriage, Kids & Grief Brought Clarity & a Sense of Purpose to Nikki DeLoach

Married since 2009 to Ryan Goodell, a former member of the boy band Take 5 who now works as an entertainment lawyer, DeLoach said on the “Blonde Highlights” podcast that having their two sons — William, 11, and Bennett, 7 — and walking through health crises and loss helped her reprioritize and care less about fortune, fame, and status.

“When you go through a life and death experience, you know, you get really clear on a lot,” she said. “What I realized is my purpose in the world is to raise boys with good self-esteem and self-worth and to make sure that they feel like they are loved.”

DeLoach also feels strongly that philanthropy is part of her purpose, using her platform to shed light on organizations and people doing good work in the world. That includes her work with the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of her late dad, her Mind What Matters podcast for caregivers, and serving as President of the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Becoming a wife, mom, and caregiver has helped DeLoach realize that the number of movies or amount of money she makes does not define her success. Instead, it’s about how in tune she is with herself and the people and causes that matter to her.

“Our number one job is to not betray ourselves,” DeLoach told EntertainmentNow in December 2024. “What that means is not to betray our spirit and our soul, wherever we are on our journey. Honor that. Be compassionate towards yourself. Be honest with yourself. And that will actually help you to get to the joy and the light quicker.”
