‘Harry Potter’ Star Reveals Heartbreaking Pregnancy Loss

Jessie Cave is opening up about an intensely personal loss, revealing that she suffered a miscarriage after weeks of emotional uncertainty surrounding an unplanned pregnancy.

The 38-year-old actress, best known for her role as Lavender Brown in the “Harry Potter” franchise, shared the experience candidly on her podcast “Before We Break Up Again,” which she co-hosts with her partner, comedian Alfie Brown.

An Unplanned Pregnancy and Lingering Doubt

Cave said she realized she was pregnant over Christmas after noticing she had missed her period.

“I fell pregnant, found out on Boxing Day,” she shared, as reported by The Daily Mail. “This time, no symptoms whatsoever. So it was only because I hadn’t had a period that I took a test.”

She acknowledged that her emotional response felt markedly different from her past pregnancies. “When it came up [as] pregnant, there was not one a lot of joy or feeling like this was right. There was just something off.”

Cave and Brown are already parents to four children: sons Donnie, 11, Abraham, 5, Becker, 3, and daughter Margot, 9.

The Scan That Changed Everything

Because of her polycystic ovaries and irregular cycles, Cave explained that a scan was required before any next steps could be taken. What followed, she said, carried unexpected hope.

“I was really excited,” she recalled. “I wasn’t treating it as an abortion scan. I was treating it as my first early scan.”

In that moment, she found herself quietly wishing for reassurance. “She [the practitioner] said, do you want to know if it’s twins? And I was like, can I have twins? I was secretly crossing my fingers, being like, please be twins.”

The news that followed was shattering. “Then she says, oh, it’s got no heartbeat. I had to pretend like, oh, it’s not such a big deal to me. Of course, it was a big deal.”

Grief, Relief, and Moving Forward

Cave said the experience left her holding conflicting emotions at once. “She could tell that I was unsure, and she must deal with that kind of thing all the time,” she explained. “To be told that, well, you’ve got no choice. You’re going to have to have one [an abortion] because it’s not viable.”

As she processed the loss, Cave also acknowledged an unexpected sense of relief. “The fact that the decision was made for us is a gift. A complete blessing,” she said. “I did feel a deep, deep sadness, but I also feel relief that it hasn’t gone ahead.”

She noted that the timing would have been especially difficult, as both she and Brown are finally experiencing renewed stability and forward momentum in their careers after years of uncertainty.

By sharing her story so openly, Cave offered an unfiltered look at the emotional complexity of pregnancy loss, revealing the quiet intersection of grief, relief, and honesty that many women navigate privately.
