HGTV Star Jenny Marrs Reflects on Major Career Move 1 Year Later

HGTV star Jenny Marrs hit a major career milestone exactly one year ago. The “Fixer to Fabulous” star reflected on completing the manuscript for her memoir.

Jenny Marrs Reflects on Completing Her Manuscript

Marrs took to social media on Monday, March 23, to mark the 1-year anniversary of completing the manuscript for her 2025 memoir, “Trust God, Love People: Stories of My Openhanded Faith.”

“My journal reminded me this morning that it has been one year since I excitedly and nervously sent off the final manuscript for ‘Trust God, Love People,'” she began in her lengthy post. “Before I sent it off, I noted: As I looked back on the twists and turns and changes that took place while working on this manuscript, Anne Lamott’s words from ‘Bird by Bird’ ring ever true.”

Marrs went on to share Lamott’s words: “E. L. Doctorow once said that ‘writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.’
You don’t have to see where you’re going, you don’t have to see your destination or everything you will pass along the way. You just have to see two or three feet ahead of you.”

“Such wise advice writing, and also, for life. Just keep looking two or three feet ahead and trust God for the destination,” Marrs concluded.

Jenny Marrs Called Her Memoir Her ‘Heart on the Page’

Prior to the book’s October release, the HGTV favorite revealed that the memoir was three years in the making.

“For the past three years, I’ve been quietly plugging away writing one story, one page, one chapter at a time. Small steps. Because the big picture of writing this book felt daunting,” she explained in a June 2025 Instagram post.

She later shared, “Writing a book is a private, quiet, introspective journey. Sharing it with the world feels noisy and awkward. It’s hard to hand over my words, my stories, in such a vulnerable way.”

One month ahead of the books’ release, Marrs said she was “deeply moved” by the response from friends.

“So, when friends whom I admire deeply share their thoughts about my work, I am deeply moved and immensely grateful. As the early readers’ feedback came in, I teared up reading each word. I’m overwhelmed in the best possible way,” she captioned a September 2025 post.
