Joanna Gaines Shares Her Favorite Ways to Decorate a Home

Joanna Gaines is a design genius, so even her smallest tips and tricks for taking your home decorating to the next level are appreciated. Find out some of the former HGTV star’s favorite ways to style a home.

Joanna Gaines Loves to Incorporate Small Items in Homes

In an August 27 Loloir Rugs Instagram Reel, Gaines gave a sampling of the small items she incorporates in home design.

“I’m going to be showing you some of my favorite things to style with,” she explained. “One of my favorite things to do is always mix a little old with a little bit of new.”

She added, “But mainly old.”

Gaines picked up a plate first, noting, “I feel like blue and white dishware — vintage dishware, mismatched — is a dream come true.”

The video showed a table set with blue and white pieces, as she explained, “I just love how you can just get so many different variations, from different time periods. You put that on a table setting and it’s gorgeous.”

The “Magnolia Table” star moved on to a “cutie little dish” and confessed to her obsession with scalloped-edge dishes.

“I keep thinking I’m gonna get tired of scallops … it’s only getting worse,” she shared.

Gaines added, “I want the whole world to be scalloped,” before showing off a variety of pieces with the cute edges.

Next, she explained, “You can never go wrong with an antique piece of art. So much story and history.”

And finally, she pulled out a big branch of fresh stems, noting, “Big ole branches from your backyard.”

“Using all of this vintage, beautiful treasure, and then you add this, and it’s the most beautiful space ever,” Gaines explained.

Joanna Gaines Shares Perfect Magnolia Fall Pieces

On August 22, Gaines shared a video on Instagram of her “doing a little fall shopping at Magnolia.”

The former HGTV star showed some small pieces that make a big impact and explained how to style them.

“One of the things I really wanted for this fall collection were little sit-abouts,” she explained in the video.

She showed off a variety of items, including a black marble swan, a vintage-inspired brass bird, an hourglass, a bell, and a wooden bird.

“So it’s these little moments that I think really help story tell on your shelves,” she explained.

As for how to display the items, she laid a couple of books on the shelf and added a piece on top. Gaines demonstrated how different small knick-knacks looked on top of the book stack.

“This little moment right here just tells a little more story,” she noted.

“The way I like to switch things out in my house is I change the florals and I change the scent,” she shared. “Gathered is the best scent.”
