Keith Bynum is Now ‘Very Thrilled’ His HGTV Show Got Canceled: Here’s Why

Keith Bynum was initially heartbroken and angry when HGTV informed him and his co-star, longtime fiancé Evan Thomas, that it was canceling “Bargain Block,” one of multiple shows the network dropped in 2025. But a year later, the popular renovation expert and artist says he’s actually relieved it happened.

Keith Bynum Calls Potential Takeover of HGTV’s Parent Company a ‘Nightmare’

On February 26, 2026, Bynum posted in his Instagram Stories about the recent bidding war over HGTV’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery. He shared a post about Netflix’s decision to back out of talks after Paramount increased its bid for the company.

Bynum, who starred on “Bargain Block” for four seasons, wrote next to the post, “Suddenly I’m very thrilled to no longer be part of the trash at Warner brothers. What a nightmare.”

The future is unknown for all the networks Warner Bros. Discovery owns, from CNN to HGTV, and many insiders are “exhausted” after going through four different owners in the last decade, according to Variety.

One executive told the outlet, “It’s obviously very upsetting to employees,” describing the news as a “gut punch,” due to potential job losses, more restructuring, and ideological questions for many, after multiple personalities and producers at CBS cried foul in 2025, claiming Paramount was acquiescing to President Trump’s desire to influence its programming.

‘Bargain Block’ Cancellation Threw Keith Bynum & Evan Thomas Into a ‘Financial Tailspin’

Bynum shocked fans in June 2025 when he revealed that HGTV had decided to pull the plug on season five of “Bargain Block,” after initially green-lighting the new season.

In his Instagram Stories at the time, he wrote, “It’s a long story, but they originally greenlit it and then — I guess that was back in December. Then they decided in February, after we got everything ready for season five, that they weren’t going to do it.”

“So, it threw us into a bit of a crazy financial tailspin,” Bynum admitted. “And the last three, four months, we’ve been trying to just figure it out. So we’re doing client work and got some other stuff going on, but it’s been — oh, man, it’s been wild.”

HGTV aired the final episodes of the show’s fourth season in August. When fans expressed hope on Instagram that an influx of viewers would cause HGTV to bring them back for another season, Bynum replied, “haha no thanks! Yall gonna really love the next chapter :)”

Bynum and Thomas have spent the last year traveling the U.S. — including a trip to Hawaii this month — working on home makeovers for individual clients. As 2025 ended, he told fans in a social media post that he could “feel a different energy already for 2026 and I love it.”

All four seasons of “Bargain Block” are still available to watch online with a subscription or stream via HBO Max.

  1. Initially I was devastated that Bargain Block was cancelled. I truly connected with the cast and what they were doing for the community of Detroit. I felt that they did a lot from their heart and the love of what they do.
In fact that is why I reached out to them for renovation work. Of course I was shocked and pleased that they responded and are now slated to remodel my kitchen and dining area.
Now that I know some of the circumstances for the cancellation I am no longer sad but hopeful that they will be even more successful in the future.
Best of luck to them and others affected by the cancellations.
I am looking forward to seeing my personal finished job.
