While you might be used to hearing Cardi B on the radio, you may now hear her voice somewhere very different. The rapper is the new personality behind PSAs that can be heard on New York City’s subways.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority took to Instagram on Tuesday, September 23, to share a video that shows Cardi B walking around the underground. At the same time, her voice can be heard saying, “Hey New York! It’s Cardi B. I’m here at the MTA recording some PSAs you’ll be hearing in the subway stations.”
She can then be seen recording her messages, saying, “We’re walking here!” That’s not to mention “Steps are for stepping, not sitting!” and “Move it, bucko!”
“These trains don’t move without you, so make sure you pay that fare and keep it real. Stop subway surfing!” she continued. “Ride safe, keep it cute and keep it moving!”
Fans Loved What They Were Hearing from Cardi B

“Yea she’s an inspiration. I love my city,” one person wrote. Another commented to say, “THIS is how I want my taxpayer dollars to be spent. YES!!”
Others applauded Cardi B’s work ethic and promotional methods.
“Nah, Cardi B. & her team is definitely winning! She’s grinding & proving that this album rollout is one of a kind!🤎✊🏾,” someone wrote.
Another person added, “This is giving early 2010s promo when the artist actually went out and marketed their album 😍😍😍😍😍😍”
Even the City of New York’s Instagram account commented on the MTA’s post, saying, “Brb adding ‘move it, bucko!’ to my daily vocabulary 🙂↕️💙”
Cardi B Isn’t the First Celeb to Do NYC Subway PSAs
GettyWhile Cardi B’s subway PSAs are sure to cause a buzz, she’s not the first celebrity to lend their voice to the MTA.
Back in October of last year, Billie Eilish recorded a message that aimed to make subway riders aware of the relatively environmentally-friendly mode of transportation, according to Billboard. Ahead of her New York City concerts, the singer told the public, “If you’re planning to see my concert this week, ditch the car and help the planet by riding the MTA to Madison Square Garden.”
Before either Cardi B or Eilish’s PSAs, other stars could be heard over the subway speakers. That includes Jerry Seinfeld, Whoopi Goldberg and Debi Mazar, according to the New York Post.
“The subway is part of my DNA,” Mazar said at the time while talking to the Post. “I’m so excited to do this. I want subway riders to feel welcome, and I want them to hear a familiar voice, think for a second and maybe smile.”
