Inside Cardi B & Offset’s Marriage: Why She Says It Wasn’t a ‘Waste of Time’

Cardi B is opening up about her relationship with Offset and why, despite its ups and downs, she doesn’t regret their time together.

The rapper, 32, appeared on the Sept. 24 episode of “Call Her Daddy,” where she reflected on her seven-year marriage to the Migos rapper, 33, and explained how the experience shaped her.

“Even in the long marriage that I was in, there’s a lot of things that I regret, and there’s a lot of things that people are gonna be like, ‘You see, you wasted your time,’ but I don’t feel like it was a waste of time,” Cardi said.

She continued, “I see what comes with being a wife, being a mom, so I experienced that. It’s like I have to experience pain, I have to experience good times, I have to experience what it was like to have a family and to be a wife.”

Cardi, born Belcalis Almánzar, explained that leaving the marriage was ultimately a personal decision.

“I really just don’t regret anything. It is what it is. If your heart is not ready, it’s just not ready,” she said, adding that she knew it was over when her body began “rejecting” the relationship.

The couple, who married in 2017, had multiple separations during their marriage, sometimes going months without seeing each other. They share three children: daughters Kulture Kiari, 7, and Blossom Belle, 1, and son Wave Set, 4.

Cardi first filed for divorce in September 2020 before reconciling. She filed again in July 2024 after confirming their split in December 2023 and has since moved on with her current boyfriend, NFL star Stefon Diggs. The pair are currently expecting a child of their own.

Cardi B on Music, Co-Parenting with Offset, & Moving Forward

On her latest album “Am I the Drama?,” Cardi addresses her marriage’s collapse, including in the track “Man of Your Word.” During a CBS Mornings interview, Gayle King read the lyrics aloud, with Cardi offering raw commentary about her relationship.

“Seven years I admit, it wasn’t all bad / Skeletons in my closet too / As a wife I should’ve realized you were hurt / But instead I put my music first / But I really do wish you the best / Continue being a winner / If I had one wish / I wish you would’ve been a man of your word,” King recited.

“I just wish he was a better person, but it is what it is,” Cardi replied. “Be a better person for your kids.”

The Grammy winner emphasized that she no longer harbors bitterness toward her ex and expressed hope that they will one day establish a steady rhythm as co-parents.

“I think he has some type of hate in his heart right now… I don’t know how long that’s gonna take for him but that’s always been my wish,” she said. “I don’t have hate in my heart anymore.”
