Country music star, Clay Walker, isn’t letting Multiple Sclerosis (MS) slow him down; at least not on stage. The 56-year-old recently opened up to People about the challenges he’s facing with the condition he was diagnosed with back in 1996. And honestly, it’s impossible not to admire his determination.
MS, according to the Mayo Clinic, “causes breakdown of the protective covering of nerves” and “can cause numbness, weakness, trouble walking, vision changes and other symptoms.” But Walker is showing that even a decades-long battle can’t steal his love for performing.
GettyFinding Hope in the Struggle
Walker shared that earlier this year, he noticed changes that really worried him. “At the beginning of the year, I noticed I was having a lot of difficulty with balance and walking, and it really started to worry me,” he told People. To help with these symptoms, he had surgery in March 2025 to put “medication baclofen directly into the spinal fluid to help relax muscles and ease spasticity.”
“The surgery gave me a lot of hope. But so far, you know, it’s not great. It hasn’t done what I wanted it to. Balance has been an issue lately… Am I walking perfect? No. Am I walking better? Absolutely. I got on a treadmill the other day without a harness holding me up to keep from falling, and I walked five minutes. That is progress.”
Even small victories matter, and Walker’s perspective is a refreshing reminder that improvement doesn’t always come fast, but it still counts.
Clay Walker Talks Stage Life
Walker’s passion for performing hasn’t dimmed despite MS. “Does it bother me that people have to watch me struggle to get off stage? Yes, it does. But my band is very in tune with me, and they know if I’m struggling or not,” he said. “My joy comes from being on stage… I mean, there is a rush of energy and endorphins that has no comparison. I don’t think there’s any drug that has that big of an effect. It’s crazy.”
Expands Ongoing Tour With 2026 Dates
Through it all, Walker refuses to give up. “I’m not giving up,” he explained to People. “So many people have so many different crosses they have to carry or bear — and this is mine.” His honesty about the realities of living with MS shows that strength isn’t about being perfect; it’s about keeping your spirit alive, celebrating progress, and finding joy even on hard days. He’s even still touring…
Walker also added more dates to his tour for 2026. The stops include Oklahoma in January, Indiana and Missouri in February, South Carolina in March, and Illinois in April. Get details and ticket info. here.
It seems like Clay Walker’s story is more than a health update… it’s a reminder of resilience, determination, and the unshakable joy that comes from doing what you love. And with that attitude, it seems like nothing can slow him down for long.
