Lacey Chabert is getting creative for her daughter Julia’s upcoming 10th birthday.
The Hallmark star, 43, recently opened up about the special celebration during an exclusive PEOPLE interview. Chabert revealed that she and Julia have been planning a unique party centered around the 10-year-old’s favorite animal: capybaras.
“We’re very serious about planning her birthday parties, and we’re really into DIY, so she and I both make the decorations usually,” Chabert shared.
All About the Fun Celebration
This year, the celebration will be a “capybara crafting party.”
“Let me explain,” Chabert said with a smile. “We’re doing lots of arts and crafts, which we have prepared. I mean, we are making bracelets, we are decorating canvas bags — high level. And then, it’s going to be capybara-themed because she’s obsessed with capybaras.”
The party sounds like a perfect fit for Julia, who Chabert shares with husband David Nehdar. The couple welcomed their daughter in September 2016.
For Chabert, though, the celebration is about more than just throwing a memorable birthday party. The actress has frequently spoken about how much joy her daughter brings to her life.
“She’s the light of my life,” the “Mean Girls” star said.
Chabert Loves Being a Mom
Chabert has also previously opened up about the parts of motherhood she finds most rewarding. In an interview with HELLO, she explained that she especially loves watching Julia become more confident in herself and seeing her recognize the effort she puts into accomplishing things.
“Seeing her accomplish things that I know she’s worked hard for, and seeing her take that pride in herself is something really beautiful for me to witness as her mom,” Chabert said.
The actress also emphasized the importance of kindness when discussing the values she hopes to instill in her daughter.
“We always tell her like ‘Do your best in school. You don’t have to be perfect, but it is really important to us that you be kind to people,’” she explained.
Hearing positive feedback about Julia’s behavior from teachers and other parents is particularly meaningful to Chabert.
“When you get that feedback back, whether from a teacher or another parent, that your child has been kind, it just means the world,” she said.
Julia has also gotten a glimpse behind the scenes of her mother’s acting career. Chabert has brought her daughter to the sets of some of her projects, where Julia enjoys observing the production process.
“She loves going to the hair and makeup trailer. She loves hanging out,” Chabert said. “She’s a bit more shy on set. She kind of likes to just hang back and watch how everything unfolds, but she’s very interested in the whole process.”
Julia has even taken an interest in her mom’s scripts and enjoys seeing how the stories she reads eventually come together on screen.
“She even likes reading some of the scripts and enjoys seeing how it ends up coming to life on screen,” Chabert added.
Now, the mother-daughter duo is putting their creativity toward Julia’s birthday. Between the handmade decorations, bracelets, decorated canvas bags and plenty of capybara-inspired details, the upcoming celebration is shaping up to be a memorable one.
