Cyndi Lauper proved she still commands the stage — and the crowd — after shutting down a heckler during the opening night of her Las Vegas residency.
The Grammy-winning icon, 72, didn’t hold back during her Friday, April 24 performance when an audience member interrupted her mid-show.
Addressing the situation directly, Lauper made it clear she wasn’t about to let it slide.
Lauper Had a Fiery Response to the Heckler
“I don’t know what the [expletive] he’s saying,” she said in a video posted by a fan. “Please remember where you are, OK?”
She doubled down moments later with a sharp warning: “If you’re trying to shade me [expletive], I’m going to come for you. I’m from Brooklyn, and if I want to [expletive] talk, I will do a tap dance if I [expletive] want.”
The crowd reportedly immediately erupted in applause, rallying behind the singer as she regained control of the moment and continued her performance without missing a beat.
The fiery exchange came during the kickoff of Lauper’s first-ever Las Vegas residency, Cyndi Lauper: Live in Las Vegas, held at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
The limited run spans from April 24 through May 2, marking a special engagement for fans who may have missed her recent farewell tour.
Lauper Has Been Posting About Her Residency
Ahead of opening night, Lauper teased the residency on social media, sharing her excitement for what’s to come.
“Hey, we’re in Vegas! I can’t believe it,” she said in an Instagram video. “[There] will be a couple of surprises in the show, but you have to come and see it. Not gonna tell you. I’m excited! Anyway, come on down [because] it’ll be a night of Cyn!”
When the residency was first announced, Lauper framed it as both a celebration and a final opportunity for fans to experience her live.
“I am excited to announce my first-ever Las Vegas residency,” she said in a statement. “Vegas will become ‘Cyn City’ next spring, when I bring my Girls Just Wanna Have Fun show to town for this special run, an opportunity for fans who missed my Farewell Tour to celebrate one last time.”
Fans clearly took her up on the offer. Social media has been flooded with excitement in the lead-up to the shows, with many sharing that they already secured tickets.
“Can’t wait to see you in Cyn City,” one fan wrote, while another added, “I can’t wait!”
Lauper Recently Wrapped Up Her Farewell Tour
The residency follows Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun farewell tour, which she previously described as a way to thank the fans who supported her throughout her decades-long career.
“It’s an arena tour, which I haven’t done in a long time,” she told USA Today in 2024. “I just want to thank everybody, say goodbye, celebrate with fans that have been so loyal and sweet… I don’t think physically in another five years I will be as good, but now I can do it.”
With a catalog that includes hits like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “Time After Time” and “True Colors,” Lauper has sold more than 50 million records worldwide — and moments like this prove she’s still very much in command.
If opening night is any indication, fans attending the rest of the residency can expect a show that’s not only nostalgic, but unapologetically bold.
