Iconic ’80s rock band Duran Duran opened up about a deeply devastating loss of a longtime member of their crew.
Duran Duran Mourns Loss of Antony Price
Antony Price, a beloved fashion designer known for pushing the envelope while dressing such rock stars as the “Hungry Like a Wolf” group and David Bowie in the 1980s, passed away at age 80 on Tuesday, December 16.
“I am deeply saddened to hear that my very dear friend Antony Price, passed away yesterday. He was a visionary fashion designer, with extraordinary technical skills. Nobody did glam better than Antony,” a tribute shared to the band’s official Instagram profile began.
“Inspired by old school Hollywood, he brought that style into a new era with a sharp sense of modernity and without ever forsaking elegance. His designs were made to shine – whoever wore his clothes inevitably got the most attention in the room.”
Price got his start in the 1960s designing men’s trousers, coats and waistcoats for the Sterling Cooper shop, according to a profile in The Independent published in July 1994.
He would go on to win a competition and went to New York, before returning to London in 1972 to open a menswear shop.
“[Bryan Ferry] was as good a vehicle for me as Madonna has been for Jean Paul Gaultier. I went on to make tour wardrobes for Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, Annie Lennox, David Bowie, Duran Duran,” he said at the time.
According to Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes, Price “was an important collaborator from the very beginning and we continued to work with him throughout the years.”
“More than all of this, Antony was a loyal, kind, intelligent and razor-witted, friend. I’ll miss you Tone,” the post concluded.
Tributes Poured In for the Late Fashion Designer
The comments section on Duran Duran’s post was flooded with condolences and memory’s of the late fashion designer.
“I remember you fondly as ALWAYS making me laugh. Your giggle was infectious. Rest in peace dearest Antony,” one follower wrote.
“An absolute icon. Our condolences to the band and all that knew and loved, Antony,” another wrote.
“sorry for your loss, grateful that you introduced us and I had the chance to hangout with him xxx,” a third commented.
Others recognized Price’s contributions to the industry, as one wrote, “He is such a big part of the bands origins. Those suits from the Rio video are absolutely iconic right up there with the Nagel album cover imo. RIP Antony.”
