Mötley Crüe Frontman Overcomes Stroke After Learning to Walk Again

Vince Neil, the longtime frontman of Mötley Crüe, is sharing how he overcame a serious health scare that nearly derailed his career.

Neil revealed he suffered a stroke on Dec. 26, 2024, an incident that left the left side of his body paralyzed.

Speaking with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the 64-year-old rocker said the stroke happened while he was asleep.

“My whole left side went out,” Neil said.

Neil Had a Long Road to Recovery

The singer described the frightening aftermath, saying he had to be carried to the bathroom because he was unable to move on his own. He then faced a long road of rehabilitation.

Neil began recovery using a wheelchair, then advanced to a walker and later a cane before regaining the ability to walk unassisted. “I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough,” he said.

Doctors were initially uncertain whether Neil would fully recover or ever return to performing, but he insisted he would not be sidelined.

“The doctors said they didn’t think I’d be able to go back on stage again,” Neil told the outlet. “I go, ‘No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see.’”

Neil added, “[I]t’s like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again.”

Despite the severity of the stroke, Neil’s voice was unaffected.

That allowed him to keep singing through his therapy, something he credits with helping push him forward.

Today, Neil says he is 90 to 95 percent recovered, though he admits the process took a physical and emotional toll.

However, the rock legend added that it took a bit of time to get his brain to move his legs again. “You try to walk but it doesn’t come out right,” he said.

Mötley Crüe Postpones Las Vegas Residency

The health scare forced Mötley Crüe to postpone their planned Las Vegas residency at Park MGM.

Originally scheduled for March and April of this year, the shows were rescheduled for Sept. 12 through Oct. 3, 2025.

In March, the band took to social media to share the delay.

“To all the Crüeheads who were looking forward to see us this Spring, I’m truly sorry,” Neil said at the time. “My health is my top priority so I can bring you the awesome shows you deserve, and I can’t wait to return to the stage.”

The delay gave Neil time to focus entirely on his recovery, ensuring he would be able to perform without compromise.
