Parthenon Huxley was a musician celebrated for his solo work and collaborations with other artists, including Mark Oliver Everett of the alternative rock band Eels and ELO II. The tragic news of Huxley’s passing was announced by his heartbroken wife in a Facebook post. Tributes have poured in, highlighting just how loved he was.
Remembering Beloved Musician Parthenon Huxley
Huxley died in his sleep on January 30. He was 70 years old. His wife, Helle Huxley, shared a short statement on his official Facebook page. “This is Parthenon’s wife, Helle Huxley,” she wrote. “I’m so sad to share the heartbreaking news that Parthenon passed away peacefully in his sleep early this morning.” She also shared a link to his obituary on Interfaith Funerals.
On the funeral page, more details about Huxley’s life have been shared. This includes his first single, “Buddha, Buddha, Buddha,” released in 1983, and his status as a staff songwriter for MCA Music Publishing. But there was also more information about his personal life.
“Parthenon will be remembered by those who loved him for his absolutely brilliant sense of humor, his unconditional love for his friends and family, and his deep connection to his formative years living in Greece,” the tribute reads. “Beyond his original music, which was equal parts emotionally devastating and infectiously catchy, his ability to write a parody song was unparalleled. If you were lucky enough to be the subject of one, you knew you were loved by him deeply.”
Huxley was cherished and had a loving family. He is survived by his wife, Helle; his daughters, Fiona and Imogen; his mother, Phyllis; and his older brothers, Tom, Tim, and Chuck. He also had two beloved pet cats, Theo and Frankie.
The tribute shares a beautiful final wish. “In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in Parthenon’s name to the Sitar Arts Center, which provides affordable, high-quality arts education and workforce development in the visual, digital, and performing arts,” the tribute reads. “Each semester, 80% of students are from DC households at 60% or less of the area’s median income.”
Fans Share Loving Tributes
Fans have reacted to the Facebook post, sharing heartfelt tributes. Many have written about knowing or meeting Huxley and the impact he had on their lives. “Dear Helle, I am so shocked and so sorry about Parthenon’s passing, which to me came totally unexpected,” a comment reads. “I was in contact with him over many years and even had a chance to interview him for an interview special a while ago. As my tribute to Parthenon, I will re-air this special the week after next. My prayers are with you.”
Another fan shared their condolences, writing, “My heartfelt condolences to you, Helle, and to Fiona and Imogen. Parthenon’s light, wit, and quiet generosity touched so many lives. And my heart is with your family during this profound loss. May his memory truly be eternal.”
