Four months before the hotly anticipated Netflix reboot of “Little House on the Prairie,” there’s big news surrounding the series.
The reboot is already creating a stir, leaving viewers buzzing with anticipation. Subsequently, excitement is reaching a fever pitch for fans of the original NBC series and the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, even before the first episode airs.
What is The Big News Surrounding ‘Little House on the Prairie?’
NetflixAccording to a Netflix Media Center press release, the streamer has announced a second season of the series. The first season debuts in July 2026. Laura Ingalls Wilder authored the almost 100-year-old book series that the series adapts from.
“Little House on the Prairie” showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine shared the following statement regarding the exciting news. “I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive. We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world. We’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”
Additionally, the series stars Alice Halsley as Laura Ingalls Wilder, Luke Bracey (Charles Ingalls), Crosby Fitzgerald (Caroline Ingalls), Skywalker Hughes (Mary Ingalls), Jocko Sims (Dr. George Tann), Warren Christie (John Edwards), and Meegwun Fairbrother (Mitchell).
The series also stars Alyssa Wapanatǎhk (White Sun), Wren Zhawenim Gotts (Good Eagle), Xander Cole (Little Puma), Ryan Robbins (Russell Kind), Barrett Doss (Emily Henderson), Mary Holland (Jemma James), Michael Hough (Eli James), Kowen Cadorath (Caleb), Thosh Collins (Louis), Maclean Fish (Adam Scott) and Rebecca Amzallag (Lacey Aubert).
Will The ‘Little House’ Netflix Reboot Stay True to the Original Series?
The Netflix reboot of “Little House on the Prairie” is a reimagining of the TV series, which ran from 1974 through 1983. Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series, explained how the Netflix reboot compares to the original network television version.
“We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagining of Little House on the Prairie for a second season ahead of its Netflix debut,” Howe stated. “The exceptional work by Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on Season 1 has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come. With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love.”
Trip Friendly of Friendly Family Productions is one of the series’ executive producers. Friendly’s father, Ed Friendly, produced the original NBC series.
“It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st-century audience in a way that brings together fans of both the books and the original television series,” says Friendly, CEO of Friendly Family Productions.
The original series starred Melissa Gilbert, Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, and Melissa Sue Anderson. Alison Arngrim, Dean Butler, Sidney Greenbush, and Matthew Labyorteaux also starred in the series. The Netflix reboot was first given a green light in January 2025.
