The Addams Family keeps proving they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. Netflix already has a monster hit on its hands with “Wednesday,” but now one of its breakout characters is officially leveling up. Yep, Uncle Fester himself is getting his very own spinoff. Fred Armisen just confirmed the news, and let’s be real; we know fans will show up big for this one.
For months, there have been whispers about whether the “Wednesday” team might expand the Addams Family universe. Now we finally have our answer, and it’s even better than expected.
From Hint to Hard Confirmation
Back on July 23, 2025, The Hollywood Reporter explained that, “The Wednesday team [was] exploring a spin-off, the details of which remain top secret for now.” But it was “Wednesday” co-creator, Alfred Gough, and Netflix executive, Bela Bajaria, who were being interviewed that truly hinted at a spin-off. “It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at,” Gough explained. Then Bajaria piped in with, “There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.” If that wasn’t basically a neon sign pointing to more “Addams Family” projects, nothing is.
But it was Fred Armisen who finally broke the suspense. On September 8, 2025, during his appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Fallon asked if Uncle Fester was getting his own show. Armisen, in classic cool fashion, just smiled and said: “Yeah. It’s fantastic. It’s amazing.” That’s it. No long speech, no trying to avoid the topic… just pure confirmation.
What Taking On an Iconic Character Was Like
Of course, stepping into the shoes (or in this case, the bald head) of Uncle Fester is no small task. Armisen has been open about how much respect he has for the character’s history, particularly on August 4, 2025, when he explained:
“You know, I can try to leave it alone a little bit. I let the tradition of the character just be. I just try to honor the way that Christopher Lloyd did it and Jackie Cougan, and just try to carry it on. So, and then I just figure my personality will be in there somehow on its own, but I just try to focus on what I’ve seen before. I mean, but I wouldn’t even watch the black and white show right before I do a take. Just to kind of just enjoy the friendship, just to see his face, you know, like the way he smiled and everything, just to make sure that, you know, it stays alive.”

That kind of thoughtfulness is exactly why Armisen’s version of Fester has clicked so well with audiences. He’s not reinventing the wheel… he’s keeping it alive and sparking with his own energy.
The Future of the Addams Family at Netflix
With “Wednesday” dominating the charts and Uncle Fester possibly stepping into the spotlight, Netflix looks ready to turn the Addams Family into a full-blown universe. And honestly, it makes sense. The family is packed with eccentric, beloved characters who could each hold their own story.
For now, though, fans are sure to be celebrating Armisen’s big reveal. His Fester is quirky, electric, and unforgettable; and now he finally gets the screen time he deserves. The Addams Family may be creepy and kooky, but Netflix knows they’re also TV gold.
