Yep, this isn’t the biggest week for new TV premieres, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something worth checking out. Let’s be real, sometimes having fewer new shows means there’s actually time to watch them without feeling completely overwhelmed. Honestly, both of this week’s premieres have plenty going for them, and it seems like they could attract two very different audiences.

Fans of period dramas have a new series to check out this week with “My Brilliant Career,” which is based on the novel of the same name by Miles Franklin. It follows a young woman named Sybylla, whose plans for the future could change when a young man enters her life.

“In 1900 Australia, a headstrong farm girl dreams of writing while society and family expectations clash with her fierce desire for independence and creative freedom.”
Philippa Northeast stars as Sybylla, with Christopher Chung as Harry and Genevieve O’Reilly as Helen. The cast also includes Anna Chancellor as Mrs. Bossier, Kate Mulvany as Augusta, Jake Dunn as Frank, Sherry-Lee Watson as Nell, Miah Madden as Betty, Ella Oliphant as Gertie Melvyn, and Molly Lewis as Whistler.
Honestly, the story of a young woman trying to follow her own dreams while dealing with the expectations of those around her could make this an interesting addition to the period drama lineup. Let’s be real, that conflict is something that can still feel pretty relatable, even when the story is set more than a century ago.

“Lanterns” is the third DCU television series that has been released so far, following “Creature Commandos” (2024) and Season 2 of “Peacemaker” (2025). It is based on the “Green Lantern” characters from DC Comics.

“Lanterns follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Aaron Pierre stars as John Stewart, while Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan. The cast also includes Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Laura Linney, Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, Jason Ritter as Billy Macon, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, and Nicole Ari Parker as Bernadette.
Yep, superhero fans have another major series to add to the list, but it seems like “Lanterns” is taking a slightly different approach by centering its story around a murder investigation in the American heartland. That could give the series a different feel than some of the other superhero shows currently on television.
