Brendan Fraser Breaks Silence on Future of ‘The Mummy 4’
GettyWhile speaking in an interview with Radio Times, “The Whale” actor was asked about the possibility of a brand new film in the series being released. While he would not give away any concrete details, Fraser was seemingly optimistic about “The Mummy 4” and acknowledged how popular the first two movies were.
“My lips are sealed! I’m hopeful to have good news soon because I know how popular the films were,” he said. “People say ‘I grew up watching that movie and now I’ve got kids…’ Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and light a candle.”
The actor also confirmed that he would love the opportunity to return to playing Rick O’Connell once again, a character he became synonymous with in the late ’90s and early ’00s.
Fraser said, “Would I like to? Absolutely. I’ve always said I like the idea and I always will. It’s just… Well, it’s not up to me to pull that trigger!”
It has been almost 20 years since Fraser last portrayed Rick O’Connell and almost three decades since his debut in “The Mummy.” His last appearance came in the 2008 entry “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” where he starred opposite. Jet Li. However, rumors suggest that any new instalment would ignore both this third film in the original trilogy and the 2017 Tom Cruise-led reboot.
Brendan Fraser Shares Thoughts About ‘The Mummy’ Franchise
GettyThis isn’t the first time that Fraser has spoken about “The Mummy” franchise in recent times. In an interview in late 2025, the actor explained that while he was proud of the work that he and the crew did on the third mainline film, he never got the chance to make the sequel that he most wanted to.
“The one I wanted to make was never made,” he said. “I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone movie. We picked up and did what we do with a different crew on deck, and gave it our best shot. But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”
