New Details Revealed on the Passing of ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ Actor Kenneth Washington 

Kenneth Washington, who played Sergeant Richard Baker on Hogan’s Heroes, passed away on July 18 at the age of 88, and his cause of death has officially been revealed.

According to PEOPLE, the death certificate lists the cause of death as cardiopulmonary arrest, also known as cardiac arrest, and prostate cancer. The outlet adds that other factors in his death included “respiratory failure and aspiration pneumonia.”

The death certificate also revealed that his remains were cremated and scattered at sea.

Washington is survived by his wife, his brother, his sister, and his children, Kim Lee, Kenneth Jr., and Quianna Stokes-Washington, along with his three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Kenneth Washington’s Cousin Posts Sweet Tribute Confirming News of His Death

On July 19, Washington’s cousin Derek Olivia confirmed the news of the Hogan’s Heroes star’s passing with a public post on Facebook.

“Yesterday we had to say goodbye to My big cousin Kenneth Washington. Kenneth was surrounded by friends and family whom loved him . Rest in eternal peace,” he wrote.

And following this news, fans posted sweet messages for the actor.

“The end of an era.. here’s to Kenneth Washington, a hero on and off the screen,” one fan wrote.

“Rest in power, Kenneth Washington. As the last surviving main cast member of Hogan’s Heroes, your legacy lives on through decades of television history. #KennethWashington #TVLegend #RestInPeace,” another fan commented.

“RIP Sergeant Baker last of the Hogans Heroes. Kenneth Washington was in so many shows I loved. He will be missed,” a fan said.


Kenneth Washington’s Career

Washington appeared in an episode of “I Dream of Jeannie” (1966) and in “Star Trek” (1969) before landing the role of Sergeant Richard Baker in Hogan’s Heroes. He appeared in 24 episodes, officially being introduced in the show’s sixth and final season. And with that, he made history, becoming one of the first Black actors to star in a network sitcom.

Washington was the last living cast member of Hogan’s Heroes after Robert Clary, who played Corporal Louis LeBeau, passed away in November 2022 at the age of 96.

Washington went on to make a few other appearances in movies and tv shows, with his final role happening in 1989 when he appeared on the sitcom, “A Different World.”

Afterwards, he went on to earn his degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and went on to become a professor at Southwest College.
