Daughter of Legendary ‘Top Gear’ Star Survives Scary Formula E Crash: VIDEO

As the daughter of former “Top Gear” and “The Grand Tour” host Richard Hammond, Izzy Hammond grew up around fast cars and the risks they entail. On Sunday, she experienced that danger firsthand. Izzy faced a frightening crash during a Formula E Evo Session event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, when her car slammed into a concrete wall at high speed.

Izzy Hammond Crashes at Turn 13 During Formula E Evo Session in Jeddah

The Daily Mail reports that the motoring journalist and YouTuber was competing in the influencer-led showcase when she lost control as she entered Turn 13.

After a strong opening sector, she was unable to slow the car in time. The vehicle struck the barrier following the sharp screech of tires.

The impact caused significant damage. A wheel detached. The front wing shattered. Debris was scattered across the circuit.

Reports estimate the force of the collision reached roughly 45Gs.

Despite the severity, Hammond immediately reassured her team over the radio, saying, “I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine.” She later climbed out of the car on her own and walked away without reported injuries.

Onlookers were visibly shaken as her heavily damaged car was transported away from the track. For Hammond, however, the moment ended in relief.

She walked away under her own power, turning what could have been far worse into a reminder of both modern safety standards and her own resilience.

Hammond Speaks Out After The Frightening Crash

Hammond addressed the incident candidly on Instagram, sharing an update on her situation with her supporters.

“Hey guys, I don’t know if you saw, but I crashed the [expletive] out of the car—massive apologies to my team.

‘How did I do it? I don’t think I had enough heat in my tyres. So I was trying to break, and I was trying to turn with no heated tyres, so it all went a little bit [expletive] up, and I hit the wall with 24Gs. So my neck hurts a little bit, but I am absolutely fine. Thank you, everyone, who is concerned. This stuff happens, and now I can say I’m a proper racing driver because I’ve had a monumental crash.’”

Earlier in the day, Hammond appeared exhilarated during practice.

At one point, she shouted, “[Expletive], this is scary!” She later shared a photo from inside the cockpit, writing: “THAT WAS WILD (CAR IS THE RIGHT WAY UP AND NOT ON FIRE).”

She also posted a brief update following the race:

“Sideways into a wall. Not ideal. I’m all good though, thank you for the messages x. Sorry @lola_yamaha_abt 💙”

Social media quickly lit up after the crash, with fans flooding Izzy Hammond’s comments section.

Many pointed to her famous racing pedigree, writing messages like “Like father, like daughter” and “It’s all in the genes,” referencing her father’s long history with high-speed machines.

What Are the Formula E Evo Sessions?

As per the official website, the inaugural event in Miami last year featured figures such as Sergio Aguero and Brooklyn Beckham. In Jeddah, Hammond joined a roster that included Joshua Larkin, William Lenney, Arthur Frederick, Ethan Payne, Vikram Singh Barn, Max Klymenko, Stan Browney, Khaby Lame, JUCA, and Emelia Hartford.

As the daughter of former “Top Gear” and “The Grand Tour” presenter Richard Hammond, Hammond grew up around high-performance machines. Sunday’s incident was a stark reminder of the risks of professional motorsport.

Her damaged car was later transported away on a truck. Trackside spectators appeared shaken by the severity of the collision.

Hammond, however, walked away on her own. “This stuff happens,” she said.

In racing, sometimes the most important outcome is simply stepping out of the car under your own power.
