Jenny Mollen is sharing a candid look at the emotional journey that followed her separation from “American Pie” star Jason Biggs.
In a deeply personal essay published on Substack titled “Don’t Tell Me What It Is,” the 46-year-old star reflected on a lifelong pattern of seeking validation and trying to feel worthy through the people and experiences around her.
Jenny Mollen Reflects on a Lifetime of Feeling ‘Temporary’ Amid Personal Growth
Getty“Angel” actress shared that for much of her life, she has struggled to fully live in the moment, often racing through milestones instead of allowing herself to truly experience them.
The actress traced that feeling back to childhood, recalling how even her sixth birthday became less about the joy of the day and more about quickly moving from one gift to the next.
“Everywhere I’ve ever been has felt a little temporary, like a waiting room I’m trapped in before an operation,” she wrote.
Mollen Regrets Not Being Present When Her Sons Were Younger
GettyMollen also reflected on the moments she feels slipped by too quickly while raising her two sons, Lazlo, 8, and Sid, 12, whom she shares with Biggs.
Looking back, Mollen admitted there is sadness in realizing how difficult it was to fully slow down and live inside those years as they were happening.
“When you’re young and ambitious, or maybe just middle-aged with ADHD, it feels impossible to appreciate anything while you’re in it,” she wrote.
The actress described many of the happiest moments in her life as “pennies disappearing into a bottomless well,” explaining that she spent years believing the next milestone, achievement, or life change would finally make her feel whole.
The Actress Referenced Her Split in Her Upcoming Italy Trip
GettyBefore concluding her heartfelt essay, she briefly touched on her recent separation from Jason Biggs, balancing the emotional subject with her signature sense of humor.
Mollen joked that her upcoming trip to Italy “sounds so ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ considering the current state of my life,” before quickly clarifying the real reason behind the getaway.
“I’m actually just going because a friend invited me to her birthday party,” she wrote. “It also happens to be my birthday as well.”
Page Six confirmed the couple’s split on May 14 after 18 years of marriage. A spokesperson for Mollen and Biggs said the two remain on good terms and are continuing to focus on co-parenting their sons, Sid, 12, and Lazlo, 8.
An insider told the Daily Mail that Biggs’ weight loss transformation and work-related stress contributed to tension in the relationship.
Mollen last shared a photo with Biggs on Instagram in November 2025. Alongside a picture of the two together, she wrote, “A totally approachable couple not trying to seduce you.”
They crossed paths in 2007 while filming the Howard Deutch-directed movie “My Best Friend’s Girl.”
They got engaged in January 2008 and eloped that April. A few months later, in July 2008, they renewed their vows in front of family and friends in Napa, California.
