King Charles may be sending a subtle but meaningful signal that reconciliation with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is still possible. During a recent royal event at Clarence House, the monarch and Queen Camilla openly displayed family photographs that included both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — a move that has caught the attention of royal watchers amid ongoing tensions within the royal family.
King Charles Displays Meghan Markle Photo at Clarence House Event
GettyOn Thursday, Dec. 11, Queen Camilla hosted a Christmas gathering for children at Clarence House, the royal couple’s primary London residence. Photos from the event revealed framed family portraits arranged on a table in the background. Among them was a photograph from Prince Louis’ 2018 christening featuring Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.
Next to it sat a particularly notable image: a black-and-white photograph capturing a tender moment between Charles and Meghan during her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. The image shows Charles linking arms with Meghan inside St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle as he accompanied her down the aisle.
The moment became iconic after Charles stepped in less than 48 hours before the ceremony, when it was confirmed that Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, would not attend. At the time, a royal source told People, “It was Meghan’s wish, and she is grateful for the Prince of Wales to be doing it.”
Prince Harry later recalled the exchange in the documentary “Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70,” saying, “I asked him to, and I think he knew it was coming, and he immediately said, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs, and I’m here to support you.’” When Charles delivered Meghan to the altar, Harry famously smiled and said, “Thank you, Pa.”
Royal Experts Say King Charles Is Leaving the Door Open for Prince Harry
Royal commentators believe the choice to display the photo publicly is not accidental. Speaking to Fox News Digital, royal commentator Amanda Matta said the king has kept emotional space open for his youngest son.
“I doubt an invitation for Prince Harry would be off the table entirely should the king really want to be with his birth family,” Matta explained. “Charles has always felt he’s left the door open emotionally.”
She added that unresolved tensions with Prince William remain a complicating factor, but Christmas often serves as a reset moment for the royal family. “The idea that he wants this Christmas to be ‘extra special’ makes sense — not because it’s necessarily his last, but because he’s acutely aware of time and legacy,” Matta said.
Her comments followed a report from Us Weekly, which cited a source close to the monarch. “Charles prioritizes duty, but he’s also a family man who knows his time is precious,” the insider said. “He wants a special last Christmas in case it’s his last.”
Charles, 77, was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in 2024 and continues to undergo treatment. Matta noted that the past year has been particularly challenging. “No one really knows the full extent of Charles’ health struggles… After such a turbulent year, it’s understandable he’d want to make this Christmas feel meaningful,” she said.
