The second ransom deadline in the Nancy Guthrie disappearance case is just hours away, but according to TMZ, the bitcoin account set up to receive the funds remains empty.
The outlet, which was first to report receiving an alleged ransom note in connection with Guthrie’s abduction on Tuesday, February 3, added, “It’s unclear how long it typically takes for accounts to update, but as of now, the confirmed balance in the publicly viewable account stands at $0.“
Nancy Guthrie Ransom Note
The unverified ransom note included two deadlines. As the first, which was noted as Thursday, February 5, at 5 p.m. local time, approached, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings, Annie Guthrie and Camron Guthrie, shared an emotional plea with their mother’s kidnappers.
“Our mom is our heart, and our home. She is 84 years old. Her health, her heart, is fragile. She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive,” the “Today” host said through tears, in a video shared on Wednesday, February 4. “We, too, have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media. As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please, reach out to us.”
According to TMZ, the second deadline, Monday, February 9, at 5 p.m., “has more to do with consequences,” adding that the alleged abductors made it clear there would be no further communication from them.
“I think everybody kind of knows the way this plays out when people write ransom notes,” TMZ’s Harvey Levin told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
Savannah shared a follow-up video on Saturday, February 7, saying, “We received your message, and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”
Multiple outlets have reported that the kidnappers are demanding $6 million in bitcoin for the return of Nancy Guthrie.
