Corey Feldman and the late Corey Haim first appeared on screen together in this relatively innocuous yet superbly entertaining piece of punk rock cinema, by far one of the best vampire films of the ’80s (and a worthy addition to Summer ’87’s super-lineup that included Predator, RoboCop and, of course, Jaws: The Revenge). The tension-filled relationship between fearless vampire killer Edgar Frog (Feldman) and new-kid-in-town Sam (Haim) that eventually grows into a trusting friendship as they become soldiers in the war against the bloodsuckers is nothing short of… well, deeply moving, actually, kind of, in a way. Just a thought: might it have worked even better if Corey Haim had been cast as Alan Frog, the role that Jamison Newlander played? Something to think about. Meanwhile, Kiefer Sutherland delivers steely-eyed intensity as the head vamp (or is he?), and Barnard Hughes just about steals the show as a California hippie grandpa.
