Ozzy Osbourne Biopic Confirmed To Be Moving Forward, Actor in Mind and ‘Conversations Have Been Had’

The son of late rock icon Ozzy Osbourne has offered an update on the status of the announced biopic about the legendary Prince of Darkness.

In a recent interview with E! News, Jack Osbourne revealed that the project was moving forward, and shared some positive details.

Discussions with an Actor

It’s gung-ho,” Osbourene told E! News, revealing the big-screen biopic is moving full speed ahead.

The script is “done,” he added, and is “currently going out to directors.”

Beyond that, he said that he and his family already have an actor in mind to play the iconic Black Sabbath frontman.

“We do. I’m not allowed to say, but conversations have been had, and if it all works out, it’s gonna be awesome,” Osbourne teased.

A Movie for the Fans

The biopic, which had been previously announced way back in 2021, has taken several twists and turns since then. Ever since the rocker’s tragic passing in July 2025 at age 76, Jack Osbourne noted, the project has gained steam.

However, he was also quick to point out that whatever does make it to the screen will be made with the fans in mind.

“I have this mantra, and I always say it, when in meetings with my mom or doing anything with the family business. It’s, ‘give the fans what they want.’ That’s our people, that’s who we’re catering for, that’s what my dad wrote music for, that’s what he toured for, it’s why we did the shows we did,” he explained.

“It’s been a big theme,” he added.

No ‘Artsy, Esoteric Biopic’

Rock biopics have been all over the map, from straightforward dramatizations like Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” to the experimentally surreal “I’m Not There,” which cast six different actors — including Cate Blanchett — to represent Bob Dylan at various stages of his career.

According to Osbourne, though, fans can expect to see the biopic they want to see.

“Because we’re doing the Ozzy movie with Sony, and I’m always saying in the meetings, ‘We’ve got to give the fans what they want. We can’t make this artsy, esoteric biopic,’” he explained.

“No, we’re not doing that — for many reasons — but it’s not what the fans want.”

His Love Story with Sharon

In 2021, a social media post from Ozzy Osbourne’s official X account announced that a deal had been struck with Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment that involved “developing a biopic chronicling the extraordinary life of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, and the great love story between him and his wife, Sharon.”

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Lee Hall with Oscar nominee Lee Hall attached to write the screenplay. Hall’s previous scripts have included the Oscar-nominated “Billy Elliot,” Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse” and the acclaimed Elton John biopic “Rocketman.”

Behind the scenes, the upcoming biopic is an Osbourne family affair. As  the New York Post reported last year, the late rocker’s widow, Sharon Osbourne, will be the film’s producer. Also producing will Jack and sister Aimee.
