Sarah Paulson marked a special birthday this week with an unexpected but heartfelt tribute to her longtime friend Diane Keaton, sharing new ink that fans are calling a touching celebration of the late star’s life and legacy.
The “American Horror Story” and “All’s Fair” actress, 51, shared a heartwarming post to Instagram on Monday, January 5.
Paulson’s Heartfelt Post
In the post, Paulson penned a touching tribute to her late friend, as she shared two images in the post.
“You would have been 80 today,” Paulson began. “Too many deep feelings to put here… I was the luckiest person in the world to have traveled, laughed so hard we cried, watched a million and one movies, really cried, and eaten French fries with you.”
She continued, “You. You. Wondrous, singular, YOU. I will miss you till the end of time.”
Keaton passed away in October at the age 79, and it sparked an outpouring of memories from friends across Hollywood — including Paulson — and the tattoo appears to be an intimate reminder of their friendship.
Paulson & Keaton’s Friendship
Paulson and Keaton’s relationship dated back decades.
The two first met while filming “The Other Sister” in 1999, when Keaton played Paulson’s onscreen mother and their connection quickly grew into a lasting friendship.
Paulson has spoken openly about Keaton’s influence on her life and career, calling her a beloved confidant and creative inspiration.
At a Women in Entertainment gala in Los Angeles late last year, Paulson delivered an emotional tribute to Keaton, sharing messages and emails they exchanged over the years and describing how much the late actress meant to her both personally and professionally, according to Page Six.
Keaton, an Oscar-winning legend known for films such as “Annie Hall” and “Something’s Gotta Give,” was celebrated widely after her death for her iconic work and singular voice in Hollywood.
In her tribute speeches, Paulson shared anecdotes and messages from Keaton — humorous, candid and deeply human — giving fans a glimpse of the genuine affection between them.
During one speech, Paulson read some of the voicemails that she had saved over the years from Keaton.
“Sarah, I hate your phone. It is always full, and I can never leave a message. Moron, what is your address? Hurry home, sucker idiot. Diane,” Paulson said as she shared the message with the crowd.
The new tattoo seen on what would have been Keaton’s birthday suggests that connection continues to live on in her personal expression.
Friends and fans of Paulson took to social media after her heartfelt tribute. Actress Sophie Bush wrote, “Beautiful, and crushing. As grief is. Sending love.”
Actress Yvette Nicole Brown added, “Beautiful tribute to your dear friend, Sarah. So sorry for your loss. Sorry for the world’s loss.”
