Maya Rudolph Has 1 Hilarious Regret About Her Time on SNL

For a show famous for launching careers and backstage romances, “Saturday Night Live” gave Maya Rudolph plenty of unforgettable moments. However, “SNL” never gave her the kind of moment she now jokes about missing. Looking back on her seven-season run at the sketch comedy institution, the comedian recently shared one surprisingly hilarious regret about her time at the show, admitting she never quite leaned into a side of the experience that many of her castmates did.

Maya Rudolph’s Hilarious Regret

From Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson to Carrie Fisher and Dan Aykroyd, plenty of backstage romances (and marriages) have started at 30 Rock. However, Maya Rudolph never made any love connections while on “Saturday Night Live,” and the “Loot” star seems to regret it.

Rudolph recently sat down with her pal and “SNL” costar Amy Poehler for a live taping of Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast.

During their conversation, Rudolph just asks, “Can we talk about flirting more? I didn’t get to, like, sleep with anybody at SNL.” Poehler hilariously comforted her with an “I know, I’m sorry.” Rudolph insisted, “Why didn’t I flirt with people?”

The 53-year-old comedian has been in a committed relationship with American filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson for almost 25 years. While they have never been married, they do call each other “husband” and “wife,” and they share four children, Pearl, Lucille, Jack, and Minnie.

That relationship definitely has to be the reason she didn’t sleep with anyone during her time on the show. However, why didn’t she at least flirt?

“I’m bad at flirting,” Rudolph said. “I’m bad at it.”

Poehler seemed to agree with her friend, stating, “I agree, you don’t read it.” However, she did go on to tell Maya that she was crazy for not taking advantage of the fact that “everyone was in love with you.”

Finding Love on ‘Saturday Night Live’

While Maya never flirted or slept with anyone while on the show, “Saturday Night Live” has seen numerous romances blossom from the show.

TV Insider reported that former cast member Fred Armisen met Elisabeth Moss during a cameo she made while her “Mad Men” co-star Jon Hamm was hosting. The couple ended up getting married, but the marriage only lasted eight months.

“Ted Lasso” and former “SNL” cast member Jason Sudeikis met Olivia Wilde at an “SNL” afterparty. They dated for eight years and have two children together, but ended their engagement in 2020.

Emma Stone has hosted “SNL” five times. She also found her future husband, Dave McCary, on the show. He was a writer on the show, but now the couple runs a production company together.
