For the third time, “Fear Factor” is getting a reboot; here’s how to watch the new Johnny Knoxville-hosted version, officially titled “Fear Factor: House of Fear.”
‘Fear Factor: House of Fear’ Network & Air Time
Although in the past, “Fear Factor” aired on NBC (and later, MTV), this time, the reality show will air on Fox. Tonight, January 11, Fox will air the first episode of the new series at 8 p.m. ET. However, Sunday will not be the show’s regular air date.
Moving forward, “Fear Factor: House of Fear” will air on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET. If you miss tonight’s airing (perhaps because you’re watching the 83rd Golden Globes), it will re-air during its normal time slot this Wednesday, January 14.
“Fear Factor: House of Fear” is part of Fox’s shift towards more reality programming. While the network still has some scripted programming with shows like “Doc,” “Animal Control,” and “Going Dutch,” to name a few, Fox is heavily promoting and producing unscripted shows. In addition to the new “Fear Factor,” Fox airs “The Masked Singer,” “Extracted,” “The Floor,” and others.
Fox shows typically stream on Hulu and Disney+ the day after airing, although no direct announcement regarding a streaming home for “Fear Factor: House of Fear” has been made.
‘Fear Factor: House of Fear’ Host
GettyThe original NBC iteration of “Fear Factor” was hosted by comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan. Then, when the show aired on MTV, rapper Ludacris took over as host. Now, “Jackass” star Knoxville is taking the reins. Knoxville is known for his death-defying stunts and silly pranks. His ability to push through fear makes him the perfect host for this type of show.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox TV President Michael Thorn sang Knoxville’s praises as the new host. “Johnny Knoxville is the champion of fearless entertainment. His wild sense of humor, unmatched ability to push boundaries and take on the extreme makes him the perfect fit to lead this bold new reinvention of ‘Fear Factor,'” Thorn said.
‘Fear Factor: House of Fear’ Format
GettyUnlike the original season of “Fear Factor,” this new series will not feature teams. Instead, one person will take home the entire $200,000 prize. 14 contestants will live in a house together while trying to avoid elimination in order to win the cash at the end. This is the first time the series will feature the social element of the contestants living together.
Beyond that, this “Fear Factor” will be largely similar to previous iterations. Fans can expect crazy and anxiety-inducing stunts in addition to the social element found on other reality shows. While those cast on the show are living the fear first-hand, audience members will likely experience those feelings from the safety of their homes.
