Jamie Foxx Says His Daughter Corinne ‘Saved’ His Life During 2023 Stroke

Jamie Foxx is opening up about the role his eldest daughter, Corinne Foxx, played in getting him through the medical emergency that nearly took his life.

During an Aug. 25 appearance on Keke Palmer’s “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer” podcast, Foxx looked back at his 2023 stroke and what he later learned about his daughter’s actions during the health crisis.

Foxx said he eventually spoke with one of the doctors who treated him because he wanted to understand what happened. The actor has little memory of the period surrounding his hospitalization.

The doctor told Foxx that Corinne, now 32, played a major role in his survival.

“He says, ‘Hey man, without her you wouldn’t be here,’” Foxx recalled.

The doctor later made the message even clearer, according to Foxx: “Man, your daughter saved your life.”

Jamie Foxx Says Corinne Took Charge During His Health Crisis

Foxx was hospitalized in Atlanta in 2023 after suffering a stroke. Looking back on the emergency, he compared Corinne’s response to Michael Corleone stepping up to protect his father in “The Godfather.”

“That’s who she was,” he said.

Corinne also recalled quickly going into caretaker mode as her father faced the medical emergency. She said there was little time to focus on her own fear because she became “laser-focused” on making sure he received the care he needed.

“You’re just in caretaking mode and you’re never really ready to take care of your parents,” she said, adding that her mindset at the time was simply, “I got this.”

While Foxx remained hospitalized, Corinne also dealt with growing speculation about her father’s condition. Rumors and conspiracy theories spread online as the family kept details of his health private.

Corinne said managing the internet speculation was difficult, but she did not believe it was her place to publicly share her father’s medical information.

“They can say whatever they want as long as he’s good,” she said.

Foxx later returned to the hospital to meet roughly 60 nurses who had cared for him. He said they called him a “miracle” and told him that fewer than 3% of people who arrived with what he experienced walked out of the hospital.

During rehabilitation, Foxx leaned heavily on humor. He recalled joking with medical staff during wellness checks and sometimes pretending to be stars including Denzel Washington and Dave Chappelle as he worked through his recovery.

Jamie Foxx Wants His Daughter Even Closer Now

More than three years later, Foxx and Corinne’s close relationship remains evident.

During the same podcast appearance, the actor revealed that he wants Corinne and her husband, film producer Joe Hooten, to move onto his property.

Corinne currently sees her father about once a week, but that apparently is not enough for Foxx.

“He wants me to move into the backyard,” she joked.

Foxx explained that he owns about 40 acres and has already cleared roughly 10 acres for his daughter. Corinne joked that she does not believe her father would give her and Hooten much privacy if they actually moved onto the property.

Their relationship was also part of another major family moment when Corinne married Hooten in September 2024, per People. The couple held their wedding at her family’s Southern California home, and Corinne walked down the aisle to a string version of “Georgia on My Mind,” a nod to her father’s Oscar-winning performance as Ray Charles in “Ray.”

Foxx said surviving his stroke has changed the way he looks at life and made him recognize the strength and love his daughter showed when he needed her most.

“We should all have a Corinne Marie Foxx,” he said. “No, I’m serious.”
